President Donald Trump threatens important dismissals from federal employees, unless conversations aimed at ending the “Schumer Shutdown” showing some progress. They are not even close; As Senator John Kennedy placed on X: “You need an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the demands of the Senate Democrats for reopening the government.”
What is the White House waiting for?
Team Trump finally encourages the reduction of federal agencies since it took office. Only eight days after the president was inaugurated, the Office of Personnel Management sent an e -mail that invited almost the entire federal workforce to resign. From today, around 150,000 federal employees have used the offer; Most will leave their positions in the coming weeks.
Trump says that the redundancies of the government ‘to’ dems are as the impasse continues
Democrats are shocked – with the threat of dismissals and with every attempt to reduce the government’s workforce. Every federal job is sacred to them, even if our debt gets out of hand.
This country spent an annual rate of less than $ 5 trillion per year when Covid struck; That jumped almost at night to more than $ 7 trillion, and we have never looked back. Everyone seems to agree that the current spending levels are “not -more sustainable”, at levels that are historically only seen during wars or national emergency situations, but then our chosen officers immediately plow for them.
Asked why the White House could benefit from this opportunity to cut overhead, press secretary Karoline Leavitt replied: “Because we have an administration and we have a president who is heartily focused on repairing tax common sense for our government and doing the right by the American taxpayer.”
Expenditure is popular and politically attractive; That is not a cut. To his honor, the Trump administration has courageously tried to reduce waste and fraud, estimated by its own General Accountability Office (GAO) from former President Joe Biden to $ 233 billion to $ 521 billion a year.
The public is not fooled. A survey by the Cato Institute in April showed that the public believes that the government wastes “59 ¢ of each $ 1 it spends.” That is quite an indictment and probably explains why 89 percent of the respondents were in favor of all government spending, to root waste and fraud. Moreover, Cato discovered that ‘Americans would lower 40 percent across the board’.
Unfortunately it is not that easy, as Elon Musk found out. He began to reform the government by the Ministry of Government Efficiency, who almost hysterical resistance from Democrats. Critics mock the efforts of Doge and notes that federal expenses continue to rise. That is true, but much of the increase in spending – such as rising interest rates or social security – is outside the scope of Doge.
The good news is that Doge is still working on it and works quietly behind the scenes to eliminate waste programs. The group recently announced that “agencies 94 wasted contracts have terminated and rejected with a ceiling value of $ 8.5 billion and savings of $ 546 million, including a $ 533K Dept. or commerce consulting contract for ‘Support services edit at the Division of the Vissieingen Division of the Fishing Department …[costing hundreds of millions of dollars] Including a $ 163k HHS Education & Training contract to “provide information about the 7 habits of very effective people …”
The liberal media try to discredit the work of Doge, but the previous team of Musk claims credibly their successes and calls one NPR article ‘careless or malignant’. Nobody is surprised.
Politicians tend to protect their pork. The GAO, while the estimation that much of the dime of the taxpayer was flushed by the federal toilet, concluded that “given the scope of the problem, a government -wide approach is required to tackle it.” Shockingly nobody lifted a finger in Biden’s White House.
Nowadays Trump’s White House has the chance to eliminate more jobs from the government. They should take it; It may not come anymore. In that Cato survey, more than half thought that the government employed too many people; 62% would support the cropping of the federal workforce. That looks like a mandate.
They could start with some of the 441 federal agencies mentioned in the federal register, many of which have never heard of, such as the administrative conference of the United States, or the Joint Board for the registration of actuaries.
Or how about the Chief Acquisition Officers Council, not to be confused with the Procurement Executive Council or the Federal Acquisition Council, a name change (which probably costs millions) “to offer more flexibility and a more inclusive range than purchasing.”
Perhaps the White House should close the Citizen’s Stamp Advisory Committee, which, according to the Federal Register, “evaluates all stamp proposals”. Or perhaps assess the Denali committee, which ‘offers critical utilities, infrastructure and economic support in Alaska’.

Who would lose, founded in the Federal Committee for Statistical Methodology “in 1975 by the statistical and science policy policy … to help implement the role of SSP/OMB in setting up and coordinating the statistical policy.” What exactly is the statistical policy?
Many of the activities of our government are well -meaning, but perhaps not essential, such as the Japanese friendship committee, which “gives stock exchanges to encourage involvement in business, educational or cultural exchanges with Japan.” Are we not already friendly with Japan?
Likewise, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, which “conducts objective research and promotes to inform public policy and debate”, may not be necessary. We have hundreds of private think tanks and universities that do “objective” research.

In the course of time, the federal government has turned into a gigantic stew of special interest agencies and agencies promoted by politicians who needed or wanted a favor – often a favor for their home, in exchange for a crucial mood. That is political, but when there is never a clearance of such activities, the stew becomes rancid and turns into an unmanageable mass. That’s where we are now.
The closure even sent about a third of the White House staff home. The good news is that DOGE employees stay at work. They have work to do.
