A young Gazan boy called ‘Amir’, who traveled after a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distribution site and was reported as killed by Israeli defense groups (IDF) in May, was found alive for his mother.
Both were safely removed from the Gaza Strip earlier this month, although the location was not announced for their security.
An extensive internal operation by the GHF was launched to discover the identity of the boy at the end of July after a former GHF employee, Anthony Aguilar, a 25-year-old veteran of the US Army and retired Green Beret Lt. Col. Kolde alleged by IDF force on 28 May.

In his report, Aguilar showed images that were taken with his mobile from the boy who approached himself and another contractor who held pockets with food and barefoot.
The former Green Beret became GHF contractor for UG Solutions – a subcontractor of the GHF who received $ 30 million in US government financing To support the “critical work” – described on multiple points of sale an emotional encounter he had had with the Palestinian child, in which he claimed that the boy had kissed his hand, touched Aguilar’s face and thanked for stocks and lentils he had found.
The GHF disputed the report of Aguilar on different fronts and pointed to the hand that the boy kissed was that of Aguilar’s colleague who stood to his left, whatever the images showed.

In several interviews with different points of sale, Aguilar described how the boy then returned to the group where other Palestinians were gathered on the distribution site before they were subsequently spread by GHF contractors by using pepper spray, tear gas, Stungas and bullets, causing them to fall.
Moreover, Aguilar claimed that as soon as the Palestinian citizens were pushed out of the SDS center, IDF troops then opened fire on the crowd and killed ‘Amir’, together with other Palestinians. He repeated this claim in an interview at the end of last month in which he had told Dialogue works That the boy had received a “shot at the hull, a shot on the leg – dead.”
But the GHF challenged the story of Aguilar – including the location of where he claimed that the event had taken place.
In one of his first reports of the incident on July 29 to Senator Chris van Hollen, D-MD., Aguilar claimed The murder first happened outside of ghf aid site SDS 1 before he told MSNBC on 2 August that the shooting took place near SDS 2 and then told the dialogue works last month that the events had taken place outside of SDS 3.
On September 9 Chris Hayes gave an update on the report and told viewers that the boy who was reported was in fact found alive. He said that NBC producers had confirmed that the boy was now out of Gaza in a nameless country.
Several GHF sources confirmed that such an incident was not reported on or outside SDS 1 or SDS 3, and SDS 2 was not even operational on 28 May.

“I have always said that because of GHF and IDF restrictions from UG S[olutions] Staff that go beyond the corals in the concentration camp style that extend from the northern entrance that I could not say again, was unable to verify the death of Amir, “he said.” But in fact I saw Palestinians shot by IDF machine gun fire on the intersection of the SDS 3 -exit and the military corridor, north of SDS 3, where an IDF Merkava tank was located. “

Abboud’s stepmother also told the GHF that the boy was not missing until July 28, two months after Aguilar said he had been killed.
Abboud ran away to be in his birth mother on July 28 amid a gap with the family of his stepmother, whose custody he was placed after the death of his father, according to Palestinian law.
A GHF representative who was involved in the operation explained that the search to find Abboud was not only a matter that was necessary to discover what is said to have happened on May 28, but because there was more and more concern about Hamas’ traction when traction was picked up around the story.
The official explained that Hamas had an established interest to ensure that this child was not found, because it would discredit the story of Aguilar that a Palestinian boy had been shot down by Israeli troops outside a GHF site.
Eventually the GHF was able to find the boy and his birth mother by talking to local Palestinians and later a family member who agreed to talk to the team before connecting them to Najlaa.

The identities of Abboud, his mother and his relatives were verified by GHF with the help of face recognition software that compared the boys’ images with those of Aguilar.
Abboud also brought the shirt that he wore in the images taken by Aguile, which the former GHF contractor said the boy was wearing when he was reportedly shot.

When he was about to, he thought there were discrepancies in the boys’ images, he said: “Amir in my photos had a scar on his left collarbone. The boy of GHF does not do that. The Amir in my photos of SDS 3, has no scar on the right side of his forehead as the GHF’s photos.”
The GHF representative confirmed that the boys’ scars were in fact used to verify his identity.
“I believe this is a boy of similar appearance,” said Aguilar, and noted that he believes that the outcome of the investigation is “a lie.”
The GHF spokesperson for the organization, Chapin Fay, mentioned Aguilar’s story about the boy and his alleged murder by the IDF “False” during a press conference earlier this month.
Fay described him as a “dissatisfied former employee” who was “terminated for cause” after he deals with “volatile conflicts with personnel and whimsical behavior”.

David Panzer, Council for UG Solutions, repeated this belief in a Explanation he gave on July 29 In which he said: “On 13 June 2025, Mr Aguilar was terminated from his contract with UG Solutions, due to poor performance, volatile conflicts with staff and whimsical behavior.
“Since the termination, Mr. Aguilar has spread a false story to media all over the world, all begged UG solutions at the same time to rent it back,” Panzer added. “The activities of Mr. Aguilar in recent weeks make it clear that he makes up for his threats, in his own words … are the ‘worst nightmare’ of UG Solutions if they do not hire him back.”
Panzer said Aguilar’s comments “Raise[d] Substantial questions of motive. “
