The Skunk Works division of Lockheed Martin revealed plans for a covert combat drone to keep the US in the forefront of the superiority of the Air Force.
The drone is designed to work independently or in addition to combat aircraft such as the F-35 Lightning, also made by Lockheed.
The aircraft is able to perform precision attacks, ISR targeting, electronic warfare and attacking and defensive counter -air missions, the defense company said. The division that leads the development of the combat drone is to map a new path to quickly create new, advanced technologies that work together seamlessly at a competitive price.
Republicans demand an extensive security evaluation of Chinese drones after Trump Executive Order
“Vectis is the highlight of our expertise in complex system integration, advanced hunter development and autonomy,” said OJ Sanchez, vice -president and general director of Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. “We are not only building a new platform – we create a new paradigm for air force based on a very capable, adaptable and affordable agile drone framework.”
The defense company said that the development of the drone is already underway. In the meantime, Skunk Works is investing the funds and staff needed to develop and test tough, reliable systems, while they ensure that they fit the new joint service plans of the US Army and the needs of allies worldwide.
The goal is to build and fly the drones within two years.

“Building a strong and safe domestic drone sector is vital to reduce dependence on foreign sources, to strengthen the critical supply chains and to ensure that the benefits of this technology are supplied to the American people,” was the executive order. “The time has come to accelerate testing and make routine drone activities possible, to scale up domestic production and to extend the export of trusted drone technologies to the world markets manufactured by America.”

The administration said that drones have already started transforming industries from logistics and infrastructure inspection into precision agriculture, emergency aid and public safety. It also said that emerging technologies such as electric vertical start and landing aircraft (EVTOL) aircraft will modernize methods for freight delivery, passenger transport and other advanced air mobility options.

Shortly after the executive order, Secretary of War Pete Hegseeth issued a guideline to ensure that the US becomes a leader in drone options. He told Senior Pentagon Leadership in July that he is creating restrictive policy measures that hind production and limited access to these vital technologies, so that the combined potential of US production and wars against war facriments is unleashed. He also said in the directive that he delegates authorities to obtain and exploit drones from the bureaucracy to American warfighters.
“Drones are the largest battlefield innovation in a generation, which are good for the majority of this year’s victims in Ukraine. Our opponents jointly produce millions of cheap drones every year,” said Hegseeth. “While the global production of military drone shot up over the past three years, the previous administration has deployed bureaucracy. American units are not equipped with the deadly small drones that the modern battlefield requires.”
