8.8 Earthquake in Russia causes Tsunami in Japan

An earthquake with a size of 6.0 hit the eastern Afghanistan near the shared border with Pakistan at the end of Sunday, in which at least 250 people were killed and hundreds more injured.
The earthquake was reported at 11:47 PM about 17 miles east of the city of Jalalabad in the province of Nangarhar, said the US Geological Survey.
The area is difficult to access, so the extent of the damage and injuries is not entirely known at the moment.
The Kunar Disaster Management Authority said in a statement that at least 250 people were killed and 500 others were injured, although those figures were expected to rise.

The earthquake was only 5 miles deep and shallower earthquakes tend to cause more damage.
An earthquake with 4.5 magnitude took place in the same province just after midnight.

Afghanistan is especially vulnerable to earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush -Berg chain where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic records meet.

One of the deadliest natural disasters to hit Afghanistan in the recent memory took place on October 7, 2023, when a 6.3 earthquake struck the South Central Asian nation, followed by strong aftershocks.

The Taliban government estimated that at least 4,000 people died, although the UN gave a much lower death toll of around 1500.
