Zohran Mamdani appeared at Meet The Press to talk about his successful Mayoral Primary campaign in New York City and his vision for the city in the city.

At one point in the interview, Kristen Welker asked Mamdani: ‘Let me ask you what Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has to say. He has a lot to say about your campaign. He called you a communist because he is the president. I want to give you the chance to respond directly to him. How do you respond? “
Mamdani said:
 No, I am not. And I have already had to get used to the fact that the president will talk about what I look like, what I sound, where I come from, who I finally come, because he wants to distract from what I am fighting for, and I fight for the very working people he led a campaign to empower that he has since betrayed.
And when we talk about my politics, you know, I call myself a democratic socialist inspired by Dr.’s words in many ways. King from decades ago. Who said, call it democracy or call it democratic socialism. There must be a better distribution of wealth for all children of God in this country. And because income inequality has fallen nationwide, it has increased in New York City.
And in the end what we need is a city where every person can thrive.
It is easy to see why the Mamdani campaign has been so successful because he is talking about making the city better for every resident, whether they are rich or poor. Mamdani talks in an inclusive way about costs and quality of life at a time when both problems are in the minds of many Americans.
Affordability and costs are dominant problems for anyone who is not rich.
Mamdani’s reaction to Trump was the right one.
Trump has made employees many promises and he has betrayed them. That message of betrayal goes beyond Trump and covers almost the entire Republican party.
Mamdani is not a perfect candidate, because such a thing does not exist, but he shows Democrats the power to talk to people in a broad way about issues that are important to them.
Donald Trump has lied to American workers and he fears that people like Mamdani because they speak the real language of populism that resonates with the masses and false promises of Trump and his party invalidated.
