The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskyy confirmed on Thursday that he discussed a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, possibly next week, in a phone call with President Donald Trump the day before.
Zenskyy – who was published by Trump on Wednesday by Trump and said that the discussion was also held with European leaders – called Putin to “be good” and take the meeting.
“Yesterday, various potential formats for meetings at leadership level to bring peace, also discussed two bilateral and one trilateral,” he said in a function about X. “Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same brave approach to the Russian side. It is time that we end the war.”

A historic encounter between Trump and Putin could take place within 10 days
The comments came after months of attempts from the Trump government to let Putin sit down with Zenskyy, who has so far refused the Kremlin chef.
It seemed unlikely that he would agree this time, because Russian state media reported on Thursday that Putin was open to the idea, but said, “Conditions must be created to find negotiations.”
The “conditions” were also reported as “far from created”, according to a telegramp post from the Russian news agency Ria.
Trump’s adviser further claimed on Thursday that the issue of a trilateral meeting was called “but” not discussed “during Putin’s conversations with White House -Steve Witkoff and later Trump.

Trump greets ‘very productive’ conversations with Putin despite no cease -the fire, ‘secondary rates’ still on
“Regarding the option of a trilateral meeting, which was discussed in Washington yesterday for some reason, this option was simply mentioned by the American representative during the meeting in the Kremlin. But this option was not specifically discussed,” said Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov. “The Russian side has completely left this option, without comment.
“We first propose to concentrate on preparing a bilateral meeting with D. Trump and we believe that the most important thing is that this meeting is successful and productive,” he added.
Zenskyy said that he had argued on Thursday with both the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron to ensure that the interests of Europe were also paramount in the discussions between the American Russia and the Russia.
“We coordinate our positions and we also see the need for a common European vision on important safety problems for Europe,” said Zenskyy. “A lot depends on – both now and in the long term – on the caution and effectiveness of every step that Europe and America has taken.”
