Last week, Virginians across the political spectrum were shocked to read text messages from Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones in which he fantasized about killing a former Republican colleague and wished death on his children. But this is just the beginning of Virginia Democrats’ disturbing embrace of political violence.
As National Review First reported in 2022, just after resigning from the House of Representatives, Jones sent a disturbing series of text messages to another lawmaker stating that if his Republican colleagues died before him, he would “go to their funerals to step on their graves.”
Jones then stated that if he had “two bullets” and was faced with the prospect of shooting Pol Pot, Adolf Hitler and former Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert, “Gilbert will get two bullets in the head.”

Jones then called Gilbert and his wife “evil,” declared that they were “producing little fascists” and wished death on their children. Jones specifically stated that he hoped Gilbert’s children would die in their mother’s arms.
FIVE WAYS THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CAN SAVE THE AMERICAN DREAM AND PREVENT SOCIALISM
All of these comments are abhorrent, disgusting and totally disqualifying for anyone seeking public office.
Jay Jones wants Virginians to trust him to protect them as the Commonwealth’s best cop, but it’s abundantly clear that he harbors an intense, violent malice toward anyone who disagrees with him. There can be no doubt that Jones would weaponize his office against his political opponents. Under Attorney General Jay Jones, there would be no fair and unbiased pursuit of justice.
When pressed about his earlier comments, Jones made an outrageous claim He was the real victim, accusing Attorney General Jason Miyares of “making defamatory statements through Trump-controlled media organizations.” No regrets. No apology. Just more hate and vitriol.
THE INNER BUBBLE LEADS DEMOCRATS OFF A POLITICAL CLIFF
Equally shocking was the lack of calls for Jones to drop out of the race. In 2019, leading Virginia Democrats including Abigail Spanberger, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine and Terry McAuliffe all called on Democrat Governor Ralph Northam to resign over a decades-old yearbook photo showing him in a racist costume.
But now Spanberger says only that she spoke “candidly” with Jones after he repeatedly and explicitly wished for the death of his political opponents and their children. She has not withdrawn her enthusiastic support for Jones or called for him to drop out of the race.
Here’s what Virginians want to know: How can Abigail Spanberger claim she opposes political violence when she tolerates it from the candidates she shares a ticket with? Would Spanberger hire someone who has made comments like Jones’ in her administration? How can anyone put her in charge when she doesn’t even have the courage to call on Jones to back off?
This way we can implement a conservative reform of welfare care
Every Virginia Democrat should make it clear whether he thinks Jay Jones should drop out.
Unfortunately, Abigail Spanberger is part of the Virginia Democrats’ violence problem. During several recent campaign stops, Spanberger called on her supporters to “let your anger fuel you.” When Spanberger was criticized for these comments, he refused to back down — even though several Virginia Republicans had faced credible death threats.
Just days before Jones’ texts became public, a man was arrested for threatening Del’s life. Kim Taylor, a Republican from Petersburg. For that, Del. Geary Higgins of Lovettsville received a death threat via text message in which a person threatened to shoot Higgins at his next meeting.
These developments also come after the disgusted response from many Virginia Democrats to the murder of Charlie Kirk last month.
PORTLAND’S DYSTOPIA MADNESS IS COMING TO A CITY NEAR ALL OF US
In the immediate aftermath of that shooting, Democratic Chesterfield County School Board Chairman Dot Heffron — who was endorsed by both Spanberger and Democratic Lt. Governor nominee Ghazala Hashmi — posted: “Call me old fashioned, but I remember when we were okay with shooting Nazis.” Jasmine Frye, identified as a Spanberger campaign staffer, posted “F around and find out” in response to Kirk’s murder.
Meanwhile, the chief financial officer of a Virginia Democratic PAC was exposed for mocking those angry about Kirk’s death and for again claiming his murder was “objectively funny.” In another instance, Katie Pillis, the casework operations coordinator for Virginia Democrat Mark Warner, posted mocking comments on Instagram about Kirk’s death.
Spanberger and Virginia Democrats want us to ignore all these incidents as isolated outbursts. But the pattern is undeniable.

This isn’t just about Jay Jones. It’s about a Democratic Party in Virginia that’s comfortable excusing, rationalizing, and even promoting political violence and murder. When their candidates joke about killing Republicans, when their operatives laugh about murders, when their leaders tell their supporters to let “rage” guide them, they are really laying the groundwork for more threats, more intimidation, and more bloodshed.
Virginians should not tolerate it. We cannot hand over the keys to the government to a party that shrugs off violence against its opponents. If Democrats don’t want to draw a line, voters should.
