‘The Big Money Show’ discusses the US-Iran ceasefire and energy prices as President Donald Trump warns Iran ahead of key negotiations.
The US Oil & Gas Association (USOGA) fired back at Rep. Ro Khanna, D-California, on Saturday evening, criticizing stories from Democrats in the deep blue state about gas prices, including high state taxes.
“High gas prices in your district are not ‘Trump’s war’ – they are Sacramento’s doing,” USOGA President Tim Stewart’s X account wrote in a direct response to Khanna.
“California drivers paying nearly double the national average in state taxes, plus cap-and-trade, Low Carbon Fuel Standard, uniquely reformulated gasoline, refinery limits and geographic isolation that blocks cheap imports,” he added. “That adds $1.00 to $1.78+ to the U.S. average.”
Khanna tried to blame Trump for Saturday’s gas prices near his congressional office.

“Trump is immoral and reckless war in Iran has skyrocketed gas prices in my district to almost $6 a gallon,” Khanna wrote in a Saturday
“Stop the war, stop exporting our crude oil and give my approval windfall tax on Big Oil to give Americans a discount on their gas bills,” he said.
Stewart’s
“They don’t work,” the message read. “While you wouldn’t call it a windfall tax, California recently passed one and called it a ‘wealth tax’ as you see wealthy individuals fleeing your state. History proves this is counterproductive.”
In the post, USOGA cited that the 1980 federal windfall tax reduced domestic production, increased imports and generated less revenue than expected before its repeal.
California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has the latest on rising prices on “The Bottom Line.”
GAS PRICES RISE, AMERICANS COME AND HAND THE GOP A NEW MIDDLE HEADACHE
“Your proposed windfall profits tax will do nothing to provide relief to your overburdened and undervalued constituents,” he continued. “Instead, raise those state taxes first and bring California prices in line with the national average. Put your state bureaucracy on a diet. They could lose a few pounds. Encourage domestic oil and gas production in California and expand your refinery capacity instead of closing it. Stand up to your governor. You know he’s wrong and you can be on the right side.”
Khanna recently released the Big Oil Windfall Tax Actand describes it as consumer assistance.

“Your repeated sponsorship of a new Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act would repeat the exact same mistake: shrink U.S. production and increase costs,” USOGA added.

Jamie Cox, managing partner of Harris Financial Group, joins ‘Mornings with Maria’ to break down market resilience amid tensions in Iran, oil supply uncertainty and what the conflict could mean for inflation, interest rates and U.S. economic growth.
Stewart’s message ended with a warning to end the war on oil and let capitalism lower costs for consumers.
Tortoise Capital senior portfolio manager Brian Kessens explains why he’s optimistic about energy despite the volatility in ‘The Claman Countdown’.
“Please stop shifting the blame to ‘Trump’s war’ or federal policies while California’s own choices are causing your constituents to pay the highest pump prices in America,” the post ended. “Real relief comes from more US supply + streamlined permitting, not from recycled 1980s taxes or more restrictions. Energy abundance, not rhetoric, lowers prices and strengthens US and allied security.”

Energy Secretary Chris Wright also weighed in on the fight for lower gas prices in high-tax states.
“President Trump was elected on an agenda for energy dominance, and he was elected to represent 342 million Americans, every American in every state – including California,” Wright wrote about X. “We don’t care what state you come from; we want every citizen to have access to affordable energy.”
