The United States and Russia have drawn up a plan to end bitter fighting in Ukraine, which will require major concessions from Kiev.
It was not clear exactly what all the concessions would be made to Ukraine, but some included demands that Moscow has made repeatedly since it began invading its neighbor in 2022, The Associated Press said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Included in the framework would be a halt to attacks from Russia.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the plan and supports it, the person said. The official said both sides, not just Ukraine, would have to make concessions.
“President Trump has been clear from day one that he wants the war between Russia and Ukraine to end, and he has grown frustrated with both sides over their refusal to commit to a peace deal. Nevertheless, the president and his team never give up, and the United States has worked on a detailed and mutually acceptable plan to stop the killing and create a lasting, lasting peace.” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Under the terms of the proposal, which could still be changed, Ukraine would cede territory to Russia and give up certain weapons, the person briefed on the outline of the plan said.
It would also involve rolling back some U.S. military aid.
Russia would take control of the entire eastern Donbas region. Russian President Vladimir Putin has identified the conquest of the Donbas as the main goal of the invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly ruled out ceding territory to Russia.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said officials are “continuing to develop a list of possible ideas” for ending the war, based on input from both sides.
“Ending a complex and deadly war like the one in Ukraine requires a comprehensive exchange of serious and realistic ideas,” he wrote late Wednesday on X. “And achieving a lasting peace will require both sides to agree to difficult but necessary concessions.”
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “there are currently no consultations per se” with the US on ending the war in Ukraine.

“There are certainly contacts, but there are no processes underway that could be called consultations,” he told reporters.
