8.8 Earthquake in Russia causes Tsunami in Japan

Tsunami waves arrived on the east coast of Japan on Wednesday after a powerful earthquake for the east coast of Russia.
The earthquake of 8.8 magnitude caused fears for a tsunami over a large part of the Basin of the Pacific Ocean, including the banks of Hawaii, South Alaska, the entire American West Coast and British Columbia.
Tsunami warnings are in force for Hawaii and parts of Alaska and the American west coast, while British Columbia is under a Tsunami advice after the earthquake is just east of Petropavlovsk, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia.
Several people were injured in the remote Russian region of the Kamchatka peninsula, while a large part of the east coast of Japan was ordered to evacuate.

“Today’s earthquake was serious and the strongest in the decades of Tremors,” said Kamchatka Gov. Vladimir Solodov in a video placed on Telegram.
A tsunami with a height of 10-13 feet was registered in parts of Kamchatka, according to Sergei Lebedev, regional minister of emergency situations.
Several people underwent medical help after the earthquake, Oleg Melnikov, Minister of Regional Health, told Tass, a Russian news agency.
“Unfortunately, people were injured during the seismic event. Some were injured as they ran out and a patient jumped out of a window. A woman was also injured in the new airport terminal,” said Melnikov.
“All patients are currently in a satisfactory state and so far no serious injuries have been reported,” he added.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Services said that the port in the Sakhalin city of Severo-Kurilsk and a fish processing factory in the area was partially flooded by a tsunami. People in the area have been evacuated.

A kindergarten was also damaged, but most buildings resisted the earthquake and no fatalities were reported, the ministry said.
The Japanese weather agency said it expected that Tsunami waves would reach up to 10 feet large coastal areas.
Tsunami alarms sounded in coastal cities on the Pacific coast of Japan, because the authorities encouraged people to look for higher terrain.
Many people on the northern island of Hokkaido were seen on the roof of a building under the hiding place under tents of the beating sun, because fishing boats were removed from ports to prevent possible damage from the waves, according to images on the public broadcaster NHK.
Until now, no injuries or damage have been reported, said Japan Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.
Waves that achieved more than 10 feet were possible along some coasts of Russia and Ecuador, while waves from three to 10 feet were possible in Japan, Hawaii, Chile and the Solomon Islands, the American Tsunami -warning system said. Smaller waves were possible along coastlines over a large part of the Pacific, including the American west coast.

“Because of a huge earthquake that took place in the Pacific, a Tsunami -warning is in force for those who live in Hawaii,” wrote American President Donald Trump on social media. “A tsunami watch is in force for Alaska and the Pacific coast of the United States. Japan also stands in the way.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom later said that a tsunami -warning was in force along parts of the north coast of California.
Hawaii ordered evacuations from some coastal areas. Residents of low -lying areas were encouraged to move to higher land or to the fourth floor of a building.
“People have to evacuate, that’s very clear,” said Hawaii Gov. Josh Green in a video placed on X.
“Ondernemen action! Destructive tsunami waves expected,” wrote the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management on X.
