For the first time in months, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency Building was not besieged here on Wednesday evening by Antifa Creeps, who was clearly afraid of the increased presence of the Trump government on site.
It is a funny thing, just like in President Trump’s performance against crime in Washington, DC, once consequences before violating the law, things become terribly quiet.
It was clear when I approached the facility just before the evening traps that something had changed. For the most part, the threatening gang was Antifa with their sticks and flagpoles that I had seen the previous night.
David Marcus: My run-in shows that it is the police in Portland who are fascinated
Instead of the black-dressed no-do-wells, about six disabled demonstrators, some in wheelchairs, a blind man, who was clearly placed to make Trump’s deployment of ice officers and the National Guard seem ridiculous and unconscious.
Two or three antifa villains hung in their masks and helmets, but on the periphery, no longer the hunters, they had become the hunted.
That was not the only change from the night before. On the roof of the facility there was several armed ice officers and an American flag that had not been there the night before. Some observers thought that the flag flew on half staff for Charlie Kirk, but you can judge the photo yourself.
Immigration and customs enforcement officials will be patrolled on 1 October 2025 on the roof of the building of the Bureau in Portland, Oregon.
The message was clear: there is a new sheriff in the city and the antifa antifa will be punished.
Just like when President Donald Trump federalized the police in Washington DC at the beginning of September, to cry in fascism and authoritarianism, the change was apparent when the laws are actually enforced immediately in Portland.
A sub-reported aspect of this story is that the ice facility is on the edge of a very high-end neighborhood of buildings with steel and glass high-rise buildings. It is cut off from the center by highways and there is almost no homelessness or vagrancy there.
In recent weeks, when we saw the locals complain about the late night noise of Antifa, these were rich residents who pay good money for their stylish path with a beautiful view and various beautiful stores that offer organic wine.
If these residents were everywhere about the increased federal force in the nearby facility, I could not see it because they walked their well -groomed dogs and drank artisan beer in their luxurious environment.
And none of them protested against Trump’s actions. Not at all.

The (sometimes wrongly spelled) signs of the subversive influence of Portland are everywhere, but Antifa seems to have gone to the ground, writes David Marcus.
What the Trump administration understands, as the legendary mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani did in the nineties, is that if you start fighting crime and disorder, you have to do it quickly, not with long-term plans but with immediate, strong action.
Trump also knows that the proof of police is in the pudding. Portlanders may not like the methods, and hell can freeze before they give the president the honor for returning order. But it will not prevent them from enjoying them.

As I wrote here before, the motto of the Trump administration seems to be: “You can just do things”, and on Wednesday evening it did.
Make no mistake, Antifa in Portland is receding. On Wednesday evening in the city center I saw some of them roam, not willing to be more at the ice facility. They were helpless to do everything except for their flags.
Soon those flags can be white, because this domestic terror organization, not only in Portland, but throughout America, will be treated and prosecuted for the threat they are.
What a difference makes a day. On Tuesday I watched how helpless police allowed a woman to be attacked because, I was told, their higher ups did not want them to fascinate. By Wednesday, the cowardice was out of the window and laws were maintained.
First Washington, DC, now Portland and maybe Memphis then. Love him or hates him, President Trump makes his promise to combat the scourge of crime and political violence in America.
