The only logical thing about much of the behavior coming out of the Trump administration is that there is no logic to it.
Somehow, the Trump White House convinced itself that it could pressure Democrats to do what it wanted on the government shutdown by laying off more federal workers en masse.
Set aside for a moment the fact that Democrats already told the White House that the firing didn’t matter to them because Trump would likely implement the plan regardless of whether the government was open or closed.
A government shutdown does not give the executive branch additional power to fire federal employees.
As Republicans insist on continuing the government shutdown by refusing to stop health insurance premiums from skyrocketing at the beginning of the year, they are left with stunts and tricks that make no sense.
Republicans are hurting themselves, not Democrats, by laying off federal workers en masse.
The worst part is that the plan immediately backfired.
