For the first time, CNN reported the withdrawal of the nomination of Antoni, with reference to three sources. One source said Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, refused to meet Antoni. That meant possible worries about his nomination.
The BLS came under the microscope after a weaker than expected job report in July, showed only 73,000 jobs, far behind 110,000 estimated by LSEG economists. Employment in May and June was also reduced by a combined 258,000 jobs.
Trump dismissed BLS Commissioner Erika Mcentarfer, claiming that the Banengata was manipulated politically.

“The status quo does not work. If BLS does not provide any accurate baneng data, this has serious implications for the wallet of families,” Cassidy said. “As chairman of the Help Committee, I will work with President Trump to repair BLS so that the accurate, reliable economic data can provide the American people.”
Trump’s choice of Antoni aroused concern among economists about the integrity of BLS data under his leadership.
“The nominee will result in an increase in the demand for information about private label,” Joe Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM US, told Reuters in August.

Alex Jaquez, head of policy and advocacy at Groundwork Collaborative, said Reuters said that the nomination was a “clear attack on independent analysis” with far -reaching implications for the reliability of American economic data.

The BLS process includes revisions that are intended to improve accuracy in time as more data is collected. Each monthly job report rewinds the previous two months once extra employer information has been received.
The system offers the public an early snapshot of economic conditions, followed by a more complete picture by later revisions.

The falling response rates in the past decade have left smaller samples behind, increasing the size of the revisions – especially during volatile periods.
