A historic top will be held between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
Although the details at the top such as the time and exact location remain unknown, all eyes will be on the conversations while world leaders wait to see what, if there is something, in Putin’s first trip to the US can be achieved over a decade.

Agenda
White House Pers Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Tuesday that Trump will travel to Anchorage on Friday morning for what she described as a “listening exercise” with Putin.
Trump, who described the conversations on Monday as a ‘bankrupt-out meeting’, has made it clear that his most important agenda item will be to determine whether a cease-fire in Ukraine is even possible.
When he is forced this week by reporters about what he specifically hopes to achieve from the personal conversations with Putin, especially according to apparently positive calls that only resulted in a “frustrated” Trump and the continuous Russian bombing in Ukraine-the President was light on details.
Although he told reporters that he thinks he will know if a cease -firing with Putin is even possible within the first ‘two minutes’.
“I’m not going to close a deal. It’s not up to me to close a deal,” he said. “I think a deal must be closed for both [Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy].
“I would like to see a ceasefire. I would like to see the best deal that can be closed for both parties. You know, two is needed for Tango,” he added.

Expectations
Trump raised geopolitical eyebrows last week, when he suggested that there would be a country “exchange” that Russia and Ukraine should agree with.
Although it remains unclear which boundaries he thinks they are likely to be moved, in particular the Russian limits he foreseen that Putin is handing over to KYIV, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskyy and his allies in NATO will not have been made acceptable in NATO without Ukraine.
Zenskyy repeated in the weekend that he cannot unilaterally agree to give up the territory of the Russia site without a national referendum under the constitution of Ukraine.
“All decisions that are without Ukraine are at the same time decisions against peace,” he added. “They will not bring anything. These are dead decisions. They will never work.”
“Insofar as Russia is not agreed to fully and unconditionally -the fire, we should not even discuss concessions,” she said. “It has never worked with Russia in the past and will not work with Putin today.
Trump, who is planned to have conversations with Ukraine and NATO fellow people on Wednesday, said that he will first call Zenskyy after his conversations with Putin, followed by calls to European leaders.

Why Alaska
Although geographically Anchorage an almost equal distance from Moscow and Washington, DC, the president is a reason for surprise when he said that Putin had agreed to meet him in Alaska instead of a state of third parties, such as Switzerland or Hungary, both of which were driven as potential meeting locations.
Both locations, however, were held dubious optics, since Switzerland, a member of the International Criminal Court, could be obliged to act on the ICC arrest warrant of 2023 that is published against Putin, and Hungary, although often considered sympathetic to Russia, is a NATO member state.
“It also exposes the challenge that you cannot solve this without Ukraine and without Europe,” he added.
But Alaska also has a shared history with the US, which Washington bought from Saint Petersburg – then the capital of Russia – in 1867.
Although this shared past was defended by some in Russia and the US, such as the special economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev of the Kremlin, who called it the “perfect stage” for the Putin-Trump interviews, others took to social media to suggest that it was the precarious nature of sovereine limits.

Zenskyy’s role
Zenskyy does not seem to be officially invited to the conversations, the White House confirmed on Tuesday that it is the result of a direct invitation of Putin.
“The president agrees with this meeting at the request of President Putin,” Leavitt said on Tuesday. “And the purpose of this meeting for the president is to walk away with a better understanding of how we can end this war.”
Zenskyy will have conversations with the US President prior to the high -level bilateral meeting on Wednesday alongside other European leaders.
Zenskyy has repeatedly said that he is open to meet Putin directly to end the war, although Putin has so far refused.

What is the following
Trump said on Monday that his goal is that after his meeting with Putin, the Kremlin chef will sit down with Zenskyy to stop the conditions for a ceasefiring -whether or not it includes him in direct negotiations.
“Eventually I will put them two in a room. I will be there, or I won’t be there,” Trump said Monday. “And I think it will be resolved.”

Zenskyy said on Tuesday that he also discussed the possibility of having a high level of conversations organized by Turkey, who has organized earlier diplomatic negotiations that have not secured a permanent cease-fire agreements, but have released thousands of Ukrainian and Russian prisoners of war (POWS).
“We are ready for every size of meetings aimed at stopping the murders and ending the war,” said Zelenksyy. “President ErdoÄŸan confirmed the willingness of his country to organize a top of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, Russia and Türkiye.”
Experts have warned that it is too early to tell what could come out of the conversations with Putin on Friday.
