Too many members of the media have referred to the planned Trump and Putin meeting in Alaska as a top, but that is Spin of the White House that frightened dogs of the business round in the press are aware of their audience.
Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) had a much more suitable description on CBS ‘face of the nation.
Video:
Kelly was asked if he had a appetite for lifting American sanctions against Russia, and he said:
I have no appetite to lift them.
Putin continues to perform an illegal war, where he deliberately kills women, children, old people. A few months ago I visited Ukraine, went to a veteran hospital, where nurses there witnessed terrible atrocities.
So I think that if there is something, Margaret, we have to put the pressure on Putin, on Russia, let them pay for this illegal war and attack our NATO fellow fellow.
And I have to say, I know you spoke with Mark Rutte before and the ambassador about the visit on Friday in Alaska. And Margaret, I hope we have heard something of this. Putin is a war criminal. This is not a power to enable him to fly into the United States, to land here to negotiate with our president.
I’m not sure. I don’t know what the basic rules were set for this negotiation.
But I would expect that this administration should have extracted something for this visit.
Nobody should buy the spider that this is a great international moment for the United States.
Allowing a war criminal, who has launched an illegal war that kills innocent Ukrainians, to come to the United States and to be treated like a VIP, is a slap in the face of democracy.
Given Trump’s earlier behavior when meeting dictators around the world, he received no guarantees or concessions from Putin in exchange for giving Russian war criminal a global platform in the United States.
Putin should not be welcomed in the United States. Those who kill innocent civilians, such as Putin and Netanyahu, must be arrested for war crimes.
The regular media must refuse to use the preferred minology of the White House.
It is the president of the United States who welcomes a war criminal on American soil.
