A volcanic eruption in Iceland forced tourists to evacuate the Blue Lagoon -geothermal spa on Wednesday while records images laid that flowed through a crack in the earth’s surface.
The eruption started around 4 o’clock after an intense seismic swarm on the Reykjanes peninsula, southwest of the capital Reykjavik, said it with Office of Iceland.
“In an abundance of caution, the city of GrindavÃk and the Blue Lagoon were successfully evacuated,” said Iceland’s government. “Travelers in the area are advised to check air quality, because gas pollution can occur due to the eruption location.”
Lava from the eruption flows to the southeast of a crack in the bare landscape that is 2,296 to 3,280 feet wide, according to the Office.

Grindavik is repeatedly influenced by volcanic activity since November 2023 when a volcano in the area came to life after being sleeping for about 800 years.
“Air traffic to and from Iceland is unaffected and Iceland remains open and safe for tourists. This volcanic activity is highly localized and has no influence on infrastructure or attractions in the rest of Iceland,” said the country’s government.
It described volcanic activity as a “fact of life in Iceland, and Icelanders have learned to live with its disadvantages and considerable benefits, such as geothermal energy.”

“The Icelandic Meteorological Office, the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, and a team of scientists from the University of Iceland check and analyze the relationships with regard to developments closely [to] Seismic activities, “said it too.
Civil servants said there have been a dozen volcanic eruptions on the Reykjanes dating from 2021.
“There is no way to accurately predict whether, or when seismic activity can lead to a volcanic eruption or the possible size of such an eruption, but they are closely monitored and constantly evaluated on the basis of the best available scientific data,” said Iceland’s government.

“Iceland is located on the mid-atlantic ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates vary, making it one of the most active volcanic regions in the world. Regular seismic events are a characteristic characteristic of Icelandic geology, ranging from small tremors,” added earthbears. “Seismic activity in Iceland is often due to magma movement under the crust of the earth. It can sometimes result in magma that searches the easiest path to the surface and becomes a volcanic eruption.”
