A Top Ukrainian spy was shot in broad day in Kyiv on Thursday in an attack that blamed Russia, according to reports.
Sources told Ukrainska Pravda That an unknown person Colonel Ivan Voronych of the Ukraine security service approached local time around 9 am and shot him five times with a gun before fled the scene. A video is said to show the ambush, a man depicted who was attacked while walking outside an apartment building.
“A criminal investigation has been opened in the murder of an SSU employee in the Holosiivskyi district in Kyiv,” a spokesperson for the Ukrainian agency told the Outlet. “The Security Service and the National Police are taking extensive measures to determine all the circumstances of crime and to bring those who are responsible.”
Voronych suffered several shot wounds and was declared dead on the spot, according to Ukrainska Pravda. The Colonel led a division within the Ukraine security service that was aimed at high -level and terrorism operations, De Telegraaf reported.

“With five shots up close while they leave the apartment today … the enemy murderer did his dirty work,” the former Ukrainian intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky told The Telegraph.
Ihar Mosiychuk, a former member of the Ukrainian parliament, blamed Russian special services for orchestrating the hit, the Telegraph also reported.

“Police officers establish the circumstances of the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district of Kiev,” wrote Kyiv police on Telegram. “Arriving at a call, law enforcement officers discovered the body of a man with a shot wound.”

“The person involved in the crime is identified and measures are being taken to hold him,” the police added.
The attack comes after a Russian general was killed in April in a car bombing outside Moscow.
At the time, the Russian authorities said that Lieutenant -General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed by an explosive that was placed in his vehicle in Balashikha.
