Newly released body camera footage from Tiger Woods’ DUI arrest last week showed the professional golfer telling a deputy he was speaking to “the president” after his rollover crash before being taken into custody.
The images, published by WPBFshows Woods on the phone with someone before a deputy asks him to come back to the police cruiser.
“Mr. Woods,” the officer says, ordering him to return to the vehicle. “Can I please let you hang out here with us?”
“Thank you so much. Okay. You got it. Bye,” Woods can be heard saying.
“Yes, I was just talking to the president,” he says casually to the deputy.
HuffPost has reached out to the White House for comment on whether Woods spoke with President Donald Trump.
The New York Post reported Tuesday that Trump said he had spoken to Woods but did not specify a timeframe.
“I think he’s doing great, he’s doing great,” Trump told the newspaper. “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he’s under tremendous physical strain from his various ailments, you know, with his back and his leg.”
Trump told reporters after the crash that he considers Woods a “very good friend.” Woods is also dating Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife, Vanessa Trump.
The 50-year-old golfer reportedly had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket when he flipped his Land Rover on Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday. according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Woods pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to court documents.
On Wednesday, a judge granted Woods’ request to travel outside the United States to enter a comprehensive inpatient treatment center. according to court records.
