The largest hot dog -eater in human history will soon return to his former pounding grounds.
In 2021, Joey Chestnut set the world record for most hot dogs ate at a 10-minute period by swinging 76 dogs at the famous hot dog-eating match of the Nathan in Coney Island, New York.
Chestnut is a competitive eater from Major League who has won a record of the Nathan competition 16 times-included in 2022 and 2023, when he ate 63 and 62 dogs respectively. He bowed from the 2024 competition after he had signed an approval agreement with the impossible food brand, which sells vegan hot dogs.
The deal of Chestnut with impossible foods in violation of Nathan’s famous’ sponsorship of the hot dog match, so he refused to participate.
That enabled Pat Bertoletti to win last year’s event by eating 58 dogs, which marked the first time since 2015 that Chestnut did not win the biggest event in Major League.
On Monday, Chestnut announced on X that he is participating again in the Nathan’s competition of July 4, hoping to win the coveted mustard belt for the 17th time.
In a series of tweets, Chestnut called the hot dog competition “a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture and a large part of my life.”
Chestnut referred to last year’s controversy by noticing that he has entered into a partnership with “different companies, including some in the vegetable space”, but insisted that “Nathan’s is the only hot dog company I have ever worked”.
“I respect that there were differences in interpretation, but I am grateful that we were able to find a common basis,” said Chestnut. “I am excited to be back on the podium of Coney Island, to do what I live to do and to celebrate the fourth July with hot dogs in my hands! Stay hungry! “
Major League Eating, the body behind the hot dog eating competition and other competitive eating events, tried to strengthen the excitement with a hype video with chestnut.
