Republican governors have been voluntarily performed to secure the capital, to cross state lines to protect it and demonstrate a real national determination. This is federalism at its best, in which states collaborate with the federal government to achieve a shared goal. While democratic leaders double on failed policy that let the crime spiral, Republicans really show leadership through cooperation, solution and results.
Democrats have already introduced legislative proposals to rid the President of Command and the transfer of the DC National Guard to the mayor. This would be a fatal error, since the local maladministration has created through the crisis of DC and cannot be trusted to resolve it. Shifting control to the mayor would dismantle the mechanism that makes this model effective.
