Exclusive: A French official Pushed on claims from President Donald Trump that the recognition of a Palestinian state comes down to the handing over of Hamas a victory, so that the initiative has been demanded at the United Nations this week, is designed to marginalize the terrorist group and breathe new life into the two -state solution.
The spokesperson emphasized that the relationships between Trump and Macron remain strongDespite their visible differences in the UN, “the French president and president Trump have a relationship that dates from the first Trump government. They have very intense discussions, and they work on many, many issues,” he said and noticed that the two leaders again spoke about a series of subjects on Tuesday. “This is not at all against the Trump government. On the contrary, what is being done here will help.”

He also linked the UN initiative to the broader framework of regional standardization that was first defended under Trump. “What were the Abraham chords of the first Trump administration? They gave reassurance to the neighboring countries of the Arab countries, and in exchange they put stronger ties with Israel. Here the logic is completely coherent with what we do, so it will help. If the Trump administration wants to go to a kind of administration, it will certainly open.”
Confavereux detailed how the package, led by France and Saudi Aarabia, combined recognition of the Palestinian state with a series of commitments: conviction of the massacre of 7 October, exclusion of Hamas from a future Palestinian government, reforms of the board by the Palestinian authority and planning for reconstruction and planning. “All these pieces of the puzzle were compiled by this initiative,” he said, adding that otherwise “the two -state solution would have been in a very bad place.”
Trump criticizes the European recognition of the Palestinian state as a ‘reward’ for Hamas

In his own UN speech, Trump condemned the Frans-Saudi plan sharply in his own UN speech. “Recognizing a Palestinian state today would reward Hamas for his terrible atrocities, including October 7,” Trump told World Leaders, warning that such recognition would extend the conflict and encourage terrorists.
But the French spokesperson argued the opposite. “What was adopted earlier this week in the United Nations General Meeting was to save the two -state solution, who was honestly in Mortal Danger a year ago,” he said. “This is exactly a defeat of Hamas. Hamas does not want two states, Hamas wants ‘from the river to the sea’. It is precisely against the fact that this initiative is prepared.”
Pressure on critics claiming that Macron’s international activism is also an attempt to maintain his estate while confronted with domestic struggles and Low support at homeThe spokesperson refused to comment.
French officials were nevertheless proud of gaining broad support. The “Declaration of New York” of July – led by France and Saudi -Arabia – was formally adopted this month at the General Meeting with support of 142 states. “It was a long effort, but it shows that an international majority has been determined to keep the two -state solution alive,” said the spokesperson.
