The new ideas of Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele has cleared the way for him to possibly maintain power in the Midden -American nation by revising the country’s election system.
The new bill extends the presidential conditions to six years and ensures indefinite presidential re -election.
The presidential conditions of the country were initially five years and immediate re -election was prohibited. In 2021, the Supreme Court of the Land – full of judges who were chosen by Bukele’s party – ruled that the president could seek a second term, The corresponding press reported.
Critics said the re -election of Bukele in 2024 was unconstitutional.

Members of new ideas and their allies in the legislative meeting used their super-manness to pass on changes to five articles of the country’s constitution and brought the measure in a 57-3 votes on July 31. “This is fairly simple, El Salvador: Only you will have the power to decide how long you want to support the work of each civil servant, including your president,” said Figueroa, According to Reuters. “You have the power to decide how long you support your president and all chosen officials.”

Nationalist Republican Alliance legislator Marcela Villatoro stated to her colleague legislators that “Democracy in El Salvador has died!”
