It’s pointless to write this, but: It’s time for Curtis Sliwa to face reality and admit that the city’s best hope of avoiding the disaster of a Zohran Mamdani mayoralty is for him to drop out of the race. –
Sliwa is absolutely right when he says it’s not his fault that New York is in this corner, but blame is not the issue here.
The simple fact is that the Republican candidate is way back in third place in every poll, with no chance of winning.
Polls show Andrew Cuomo within striking distance of Mamdani if Sliwa leaves the race; if Curtis stays in and Andrew loses to a Sliwa-shaped hole, he will be blamed.

Many readers will rage at us, and we understand: No one will confuse this page, or The Post as a whole, with Cuomo fans.
That is not the problem: in a difficult situation we have to deal with the facts as they are, no matter how ugly they are.
Moving forward, and no disrespect to Curtis Sliwa, if the Republican Party wants to be a viable alternative to Democrats for citywide office, it needs to do better.

Sliwa has worked hard during this run, he is well informed on all issues, has appeared all over the city every day and has even put aside his proud red beret.
But him is an odd man out, with a sometimes shady past and zero experience relevant to running the behemoth that is the city government – yet the provincial bosses of the Republican Party stood firmly behind Sliwa.

If the Republicans had come up with a more credible candidate, with a second line that was less eccentric than Protect Animals, we would probably be demanding that Cuomo fall right now.
But the fact remains that Mamdani is ready to win and achieve a big victory. deadly damage to the lives of all New Yorkers: he must be stopped.
