An aluminum shortage is forcing a Michigan plant that produces certain Jeep vehicles, including the flagship luxury SUV, to temporarily halt production for several weeks.
The UAW is a union representing the three major automakers: General Motors, Ford and Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep.

This follows Ford temporarily making cuts production of certain vehicles at the truck plant in Kentucky. Ford stopped production of its three-row SUVs, the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, at the Kentucky Truck Plant for the same reason: an aluminum shortage. This is evident from a memo from United Auto Workers, obtained by The Wall Street Journal.

The fire started around 10 a.m. on September 16 and affected only one part of the factory, a Novelis spokesperson said. Still, it will remain offline for several months, impacting production of aluminum sheets used by U.S. automakers, including Ford. The factory supplies approximately 40% of the aluminum sheet used by the factory the industry, according to reports.
