Should we be alerted by the acceleration of “artificial intelligence” (“AI”) and use the “Large Language Models” (LLMS) AI’s developers?
Thanks to AI I can give a brief explanation of the LLM
Clearly? Of course not. The intricacies of AI and the tools that uses it are the stuff of start-ups, engineers, computer scientists and the consumers who consciously or unconsciously provide them.
Trump praised by faith leaders for AI leadership while warning about the ‘potential danger’ of technology
In the first senate version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill”, Senator Ted Cruz sponsored and the assignment committees accepted a ban of 10 years on state laws who set rules of the road for AI. Senator Cruz argued for a federal moratorium about states that enforce their unique AI laws. Senator Cruz argued that the regulations of states could create a confusing patchwork of rules that could hinder AI’s development and adoption.
After much discussion and debate, the proposal was made from the Senate Act, which then started to pass the Senate and the House and was signed in the law on July 4, so that a huge series of legislative performance for President Trump was created in six months because all the priorities on which he campaign was delivered through the OBBB.
What about the worries about AI?
Very, very few essays or columns or even books leave permanent stains. One who did this for me was by Dr. in 2011 Charles Krauthammer written and recorded in the beautiful collection of his very best work, “things that matter”.
In that collection is the short column entitled “Are We Alone in the Universe?”
Krauthammer quickly tells the reasons why we should not be alone as an intelligent species in the universe, as well as the explanation why we have not heard of other civilizations in even our own Milky Way.
The answer, says Krauthammer, “is tragic to be found, in … the good chance that advanced civilizations will destroy themselves.”
Krauthammer credits Carl Sagan and others with this gloomy proposition, but it is Krauthammer who summarizes it nicely;
“[T]His silent universe does not transfer a flattering lesson about our uniqueness, but a tragic story about our destination, “Krauthammer continued.
“It tells us that intelligence is perhaps the most cursed faculty in the entire universe – a donation not only ultimately fatal, but, on the scale of the cosmic time, almost immediately.”
But no gloom and downfall for Krauthammer, only clarity: “Intelligence is a capacity so divine, so Protean that it must be enclosed and disciplined.”

“This is the work of politics,” concludes Krauthammer, “understood as the order of society and the regulation of power to allow human flowering, while at the same time limiting the most Hobbesian human instincts.”
Krauthammer is right and Senator Cruz was right to start the debate that is not yet over, only started. That is the “political” part that never ends until civilization ends. Ai is indeed ‘divine’ in the promises that make his boosters, but deeply disturbing the entire human history that went for it.

Does it mean that we step off the edge of a cliff that destroyed all the other civilizations that prevented us on distant planets from whom we will never hear a Peep because they have contracted their own rope?
Impossible to say, but a compliment for Senator Cruz for the kick -off of the debate. The conversation deserves much more attention than it has received so far. It is too easy to just go the full “disaster is inevitable” mode, but some speed bumps – Cruz 2.0 in the next reconciliation? – would be welcome.
