Liberal ABC News legend Barbara Walters created “The View” in 1997 as an afternoon talk show for women and it remains under the auspices of ABC News, although it should not be considered an objective or even fact-based program. Since Meghan McCain walked out in 2021 citing the “toxic, direct and purposeful hostility” of her co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, there have been no alternative viewpoints to the show’s relentlessly bitter anti-Trump version.
Many were amused when the “Yellowstone” spinoff series “Countryman” on the streaming service Paramount Plus poked fun at “The View” and its tone. In the episode, the main character, petroleum farmer Tommy Norris (played by Billy Bob Thornton), urges his father, TL (Sam Elliott), to pass the time at home by watching a TV show and suggests “The View.” When TL professed ignorance about it, Tommy summed it up this way: “A bunch of pissed off millionaires whining about how much they hate millionaires, [President Donald] Trump, and men, and you, and me, and everyone else, they’ve got one up their ass.”
That hot take is on the money. Goldberg and Behar are each estimated to earn $7 million or more for their vicious daily drumbeat against Trump and the Republicans. All the women on the show — including Sunny Hostin, Sarah Haines, Ana Navarro and former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin — are believed to be millionaires. It’s easy to make fun of posh Manhattan experts from the oil fields of dusty west Texas.
So Thornton’s character Tommy summed up the show’s grumbling hypocrisy as “pretty funny.” TL responds, “Doesn’t sound funny.” Tommy responds, “Well, it’s not a joke, it’s like ‘fart in church’ funny, you know what I mean?” TL replies, “That doesn’t sound funny either.” Tommy replied, “Well, it depends on how close you are to the fart.”
JOY BEHAR HOPES TO ‘ACTUALLY INFLUENCE PEOPLE’S THINKING’ WITH HER CRITICISM OF THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

This is not a show anyone should consider a “news program,” despite its ABC News pedigree. It is not “fact-based” at all, and the presenters routinely demonstrate that they have not studied the issues and policies they discuss. Still, “The View” typically draws more than 2 million viewers, a top daytime show like “The Price Is Right.”
The show is led by two comedians named “Whoopi” and “Joy”, who specialize in speaking angrily into the camera. This week, after Trump promised a $1,776 bonus for military personnel in his prime-time speech, Goldberg first doubted the checks would arrive and then suggested they were bribes: “What he does is, he thinks, ‘If I make sure the soldiers get what they need, they’ll support me and what I want, you see?’
When the show debuted over Memorial Day weekend, Goldberg bizarrely claimed that Trump had not honored the Gold Star families: “It’s about time we heard him give the Gold Star families their due. It’s about time he did, because he spoke and said we’re proud of our Gold Star families. This is the first time — at least maybe — unless you’ve heard him do that.”‘
THE VIEW’ CO-HOST ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN REVEALS SHE MARRIED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO STRESS AS A LONE CONSERVATIVE
This show doesn’t sound half-cocked. That’s too generous.
Behar is the banshee voice of doom. On September 30, she stated: “If you guys think we can survive another three and a half years of this, I think you’re delusional… Every day this man undoes something in this country that we value. Every day! It’s shock and awe here every day. And I, for one, am skeptical that we’ll survive this.”

On October 7, she launched her latest claim that Trump will end democracy. Trump sending the National Guard to blue cities “is a pretext to stop the next election! That’s what I think it is.”
On April 9, Behar claimed that Trump wanted to undermine the stock market so that “all his billionaire friends can swoop in and buy everything low… And how bankrupt will people become?” And how many jobs will be lost? And then he can say, ‘There’s too much chaos, and now we’re going to have martial law in this country,’ and he becomes a dictator.” The Dow closed the day before at 37,645.59. But that day it ended at And it just closed on December 19th at 48,134.89.

She’s not alone. On St. Patrick’s Day, Goldberg claimed that “any of us could be deported to a country we’ve never been to.”
So maybe Tommy’s dad is right. This doesn’t sound funny. This show is Exhibit A for every liberal who claims that the problem in contemporary politics is that we don’t have “shared facts,” that voters are too misled by “disinformation and disinformation.” If the left is willing to admit that “The View” puts out more bad information than good, then we can try to agree on what facts are.
