A devastating landslide met the village of Tarasin in Sudan in Central Darfur on Sunday 31 August, killing at least 1,000 people, according to a rebel group that checked the area.
The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM-A) said that the horrific incident was activated at the end of August by days of heavy rainfall and “completely brought the village to the ground”.
“The first information indicates the death of all villagers, estimated at more than a thousand people. Only one person survived,” said the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army in a statement.
