Chrysler -mother company Stellantis recalls more than 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrids in the US due to a software error that can lead to a loss of Drive Power, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Thursday.
Some Jeep Grand Cherokee-in-in-hybrid electric vehicles, model years 2022 to 2026, can have an overload of the microprocessor of the battery control module, which is reset. When this happens, the hybrid control processor can incorrectly interpreting the control module of the battery – possibly resulting in a loss of drive power, the NHTSA noted.
“An unexpected loss of propulsion can cause a vehicle accident without prior warning,” the NHTSA noted.
Of the 91,787 possibly affected vehicles, it is assumed that only 1%, or about 918 of them, have the defect, according to the NHTSA website.

Similar vehicles that are not part of this recall also have no hybrid control processor or were built after the affected time frame, according to the NHTSA.

From August 18, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had received 96 complaints from customers, 110 field reports and 320 other service records that were linked to the problem. From the same date, the company is not aware of accidents or injuries that are linked to the problem, the NHTSA noted.

Dealers will be informed on 11 September and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) that are influenced by the recall can be searchable on the NHTSA website. Notification letters from the owner will be emailed on October 23, according to the NHTSA.

In a similar announcement earlier this year, the NHTSA said that Stellantis remembered more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokees, with model years 2017 to 2019, due to problems with the power transfer units of the vehicles.

In November, Stellantis announced that it had broken down more than 1,000 employees in his Jeep assembly factory in Ohio for an indefinite period of time, because the automaker considerably reduced its stock levels to meet the demand.
