Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf pulled a fan in the stands and lunged at his face during a game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Another clip appears Metcalf punches the fan and pull him down, perhaps by his shirt.
The blue-haired fan, who identified himself as Ryan Kennedy of Pinckney, Michigan, said Metcalf became angry when he addressed the longtime star by his full name, DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf.
“I called him that and he grabbed me and ripped my shirt,” Kennedy said the Detroit Free Press. “I’m a little shocked. The way everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little upset, but I just want the Lions to win, honey.”
The Lions didn’t win, and after the Steelers’ 29-24 win, Metcalf can be suspended and fined by the NFL.
Metcalf did not answer questions from reporters afterward and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin declined to comment This is reported by the Associated Press.
Neither Metcalf nor the fan were ejected after the second-quarter incident.
The player originally approached the spectator because he was holding a yellow jersey with No. 4, Metcalf’s number, CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said, per ESPN.
“That won’t have any major impact,” play-by-play broadcaster Jim Nantz said after watching the replay.
Metcalf could not be disqualified from the match because the referees did not throw a flag during the confrontation, the Free Press noted.
