High-ranked fighter Brandon Royval came out swinging against the UFC event that was scheduled to take place at the White House next year. (Watch the video below.)
President Donald Trump said in October that the games would take place on the White House lawn on June 14 – also his 80th birthday.
But if Royval, the UFC’s No. 3 ranked flyweight candidate, who has a 17-8-0 record, were to receive an invitation, perhaps the White House should not expect an affirmative response. Royval may not endear himself to Trump friend and UFC boss Dana White either.
“I don’t care about fighting in the damn White House,” Royval said on the channel Podcast “In the Arena MMA”. posted on Monday. “I want to fight in front of a big crowd, man. It’s like, how big of a stadium can the White House even be? Is that the same outside?”
“I don’t give a fuck about any of our political figures at this point, and it’s like fighting for them seems like some kind of goddamn ‘Hunger Games’ type nonsense,” he continued. “I don’t give a fuck about fighting for a bunch of fucking billionaires and rich people who don’t give a shit about me. Probably giving parlays. It’s like f*ck y’all. I wanna fight for people who are ‘Raw Dawg.’ [his nickname] fans, or fans of MMA, that could relate to me. I’m not trying to fight for these bastards. Fuck all these politicians.”
Fast forward to 7:20 for Royval’s defeat at the White House.
Royval, who lost his last battle and is scheduled to fight in December, also noted about his “straight Chicano” status.
“I really don’t want to fight in the White House, if I’m honest,” he continued. “And honestly, I look too Mexican. ICE is arresting a lot of motherfuckers, and I don’t know. Who knows, man? Next thing you know, I’m in Mexico and I don’t speak Spanish.”
In an email responding to Royval’s comments, White House spokesman Steven Cheung told HuffPost on Friday: “This will be one of the largest and most historic sporting events in history, and President Trump’s hosting of it at the White House is a testament to his vision to celebrate America’s monumental 250th anniversary.”
