Russia’s Defense Ministry said Friday it used a new Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile in a deadly attack on Ukraine.
According to Ukrainian authorities, four people were killed and at least 22 injured.
Russia said the attack was in retaliation for what Moscow claimed was a Ukrainian drone strike on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s home last month. Both Ukraine and President Donald Trump have disputed that claim.
The attack came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned the nation that Russia was planning to launch a full-scale offensive.

Zelensky said Russia was trying to take advantage of the capital’s frigid weather, which left roads and streets icy.
According to the Western Command of the Ukrainian Air Force, the missile traveled at a speed of more than 13,000 kilometers per hour.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of the city of Kiev, several districts in Kiev were affected and a medical worker was among the dead.

Ukraine’s security service said five rescuers were injured while responding to the scene of ongoing attacks.
A drone crashed on the roof of a multi-storey building in the Desnyanskyi district and the first two floors of a residential building were also damaged as a result of the attack.
Running water and electricity had been disrupted in parts of the capital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
