A spokeswoman for the European Commission accused the Russian government of the Jammen of the GPS systems of a plane with President Ursula von der Leyen while flew over Bulgaria on Monday.
Spokeswoman Arianna Podestà from the European Commission confirmed that Von der Leyen’s plane landed safely at Plovdiv airport. The European leader is currently on a tour of the countries of the European Union adjacent to Russia and Wit -Russia.
“We can indeed confirm that GPS was jamming,” said Podestà . “We have received information from the Bulgarian authority that they suspect that this was due to flagrant interference by Russia.”
“This incident actually underlines the urgency of the mission that the president carries out in the first -line Member States,” she added.

“And of course the EU will continue to invest in Defense expenditure and in the willingness of Europe even more after this incident,” she said.
Von der Leyen and other European leaders have been skeptical about the efforts of President Donald Trump to collaborate with Russian President Vladimir Putin on peace in Ukraine. She visited the White House next to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskyy in August and at the time announced a new wave of sanctions against Moscow.

The incident only comes a few days after the special envoy of the White House Steve Witkoff met the Ukrainian officials in New York City on Friday, while continuing to insist on a peace agreement.
Witkoff met Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian office of the president and staff chef, and Sergiy Kystytya, the extraordinary ambassador of Ukraine.

According to the Trump officials, the meeting was a status update and a re -confirmation of the goal of having both Ukraine and Russia meet to eventually reach an agreement to end the war.
