In the last escalation in the feud between President Donald Trump and Federal Reserve President Jerome Powell, the president seemed to be calling to resign Powell after the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) claimed that Powell gave “misleading” testimony to the congress.
Trump has spoken about Powell for months because he refuses to lower the interest rates of the Fed, which he said it cost the US a ‘fortune’.
On Monday, Trump sent a note to Powell in which it was emphasized how other countries around the world have lower interest rates in comparison with the US, and he continued to accuse Powell of keeping rates “artificially high”.
“” Jerome, you are, as usual, too late. You cost the US a fortune and keep doing this, “said Minister of White House Pers Secretary Karoline Leavitt Monday, reading Trump’s note to Powell. “You have to lower the rate with a lot. Hundreds of billions of dollars are lost and there is no inflation.”
