Thousands of ready-to-eat pizza and bread products have been recalled due to the possible presence of metal fragments, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
According to the FDA, North Carolina-based Bakkavor voluntarily initiated the recall on January 19.
Last week, the health department classified the alert as a Class II recall, meaning “use of or exposure to an violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects or where the likelihood of serious adverse health effects is remote.”

Approximately 23,459 boxes of roasted tomato and parmesan focaccia bread sold under brand names including Frederik’s by Meijer, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe’s and Fresh & Simple were recalled.
In addition, 2,337 boxes of HelloFresh Basil Pesto and Mozzarella Pizza, consisting of 15 packages per box, were also recalled.
The recall affects four lot numbers of pizzas and more than a dozen lot numbers of focaccia bread, with use-by dates ranging from April 27 to October 15.

The affected items were distributed in 10 states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia.
The food products were also shipped directly to customers via HelloFresh.

Customers are urged to discard the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
No injuries have been reported so far in connection with the recall.
