Pete Buttigieg is almost certainly a candidate for Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. Buttigieg is one of those candidates who, in my opinion, is hurt by the largely closed Democratic primary and caucus system that is much more left-wing than the general electorate that leans toward Democratic candidates. Add to that Buttigieg’s current lack of appeal among non-white, Democratic primary voters, and as a candidate he has some areas that need improvement.
Buttigieg’s style is tailor-made for talking about issues in conservative media like Fox News in a way that both gets the Democrats’ message across and is not inflammatory.
Fox News tried to frame Mamdani as the face of the Democratic Party, but Buttigieg responded that a place in New York City might elect a different type of Democrat than in the Midwest. Then he said:
What I find is that even though we’re a big tent and different Democrats sometimes have different answers, we’re asking the same question, and I think it’s the right question: How can we make life more affordable in this country?
This president became president promising to make life more affordable. On the first day, he said food prices would drop. They’ve gone up. Energy prices have risen as he kills utility projects that would provide more energy generation.
Clearly, as a country, we are in a sore spot right now when it comes to healthcare. A major issue during the midterm elections will be: Why did so many Republicans in Congress vote to cut Medicaid? While passing tax cuts to some of the wealthiest Americans. And why are they refusing to expand the tax credits that will help raise everyone’s premiums? The House voted to do so. The Republican Senate refuses and the president, I think, could solve that with one phone call, but he just doesn’t.
So these are the kinds of issues that I’ve been hearing about, especially that event that you mentioned when I was in Wisconsin, really across the country, and I think they’re going to shape the election this year.
Things got worse when they brought up the trans kids in the sports issue.
