The only thing I learned time and time again as a pastor on the south side of Chicago is that when you challenge a child, he or she often thrives. They can stumble here and there and sometimes it takes a day or even a few months, but when they “get it”, the smiles on their faces tell you everything. There is nothing amazing than a child who discovers that he or she is more powerful or smarter than they originally believed. And for the rest of their lives, they bear the knowledge that they are stronger than their fears. That is why I believe that the gift of merit is the greatest gift that a child can receive.
It is sad to me that the leaders of Chicago and elsewhere do not believe in this simple lesson. They believe more in race than in merit.
I remember that dozens of years ago when the elites, intellectuals, academics and politicians built us that if we had a black mayor and blacks in the power in important parts of the city and black teachers who learned black children, blacks would thrive. They told us that it was white supremacy and whites who did not understand blacks that stopped us. But by making everything black in a magical way, there would no longer be inner cities, ghettos, poverty or gang violence. We would thrive blacks because those blacks in power understood us, they got us.
From a Chicago roof to a 3000-mile trip, here is how I fight to restore the soul of America
I never believed that fairy tale for a moment.
Merit does not believe in race. Merit does not belong to those who use Race as power. Merit is from only those who earn it.
But unfortunately a lot of us believe in the fantasy of Ras and we now have a black mayor in Chicago who claims that he has the blackest administration. We also have a black head of the union of the teacher who waving so much power and waving the training of our children.
You would think that these black elites that claim to give black children would do something about the failing schools and crime that kills far too many children. Yet they can save themselves less. I judge people on their actions and there has been nothing meaning and that is why I have no trouble saying that they don’t care. What a regrettable fate to be born in the south side, where there is so many government failure.
A daring step to save the youth of Chicago from left -wing dependence
What these black elites give is their own strength, their status. Above all, they care about creating the bogey man that President Donald Trump brings back the confederation. Yes, good old Johnny Rebel and the slave master with his whips and chains will march again to King Drive. This is of course an extremely ridiculous argument and it only serves one goal: to bend our attention to their systemic failures.

A few weeks ago, Black Chicago said Mayor Brandon Johnson: “There should be no doubt what our country would look like if the confederation had won – we see it completely seeing it.” The implication here was that Trump was Jefferson Davis 2.0 and that his policy left a return to the days of slavery and segregation.

A few days ago, Black Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates – the woman who does not trust her public schools to train her own children who are in private schools – said Trump “here is to win the relevant civil war and end the work of the Confederacy.”
Imagine that you are a child on the south side and hear those words. That child would hear so much anger for the bogeyman of white supremation and no anger for the failing schools. In fact, that black elite voice bases that white supremacy, that black child tells that it is not their fault that they have not been trained, that it is not their fault They can’t get a jobOr dream of a better life. It is the fault of “the man” aka white supremacy.

These leaders never talk about merit with these children and they never practice it. They have pursued race as their power and that pursuit has damaged them. That’s why I fight them every day from my block on the south side. I know the power of merit. I know what it does with the spirit of the child. And I know how a child that lives the life of merit always – I repeat, always – has the chance to go out of poverty and leave a better life.
Merit is the promise that America gives to all her children. A certain kind of evil is needed to deny these children their birthright.
