I am not proud of what I am going to say, but I trust that my readers will tolerate me. I am mildly obsessed with ‘Barrstool Beach House’, of which I suppose it can best be described as a new turn to reality TV.
I want to be completely clear that I was not emotionally invested in one of the characters in this drama. I have no idea who these six women and four men are even. I think they all work for Barrstool Sports, and one or two maybe trainees?
Michelle Obama compares ESPN with reality TV: ‘It’s just sociological drama’
What I am fascinated by this remarkable experiment on social media is that a new form of stories telling, while I may not be invented, is apparently perfected.
The classic “in a lift” plot at work is that these 10 barrels cats end up during four weekends during four weekends, the Jersey Shore, the same thing I spent my twenty, and they have to deal with each other.
Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports has hit a new way to do reality TV with “Barrstool Beach House.” (Barrestool Sports)
For me it was like a time machine. Nothing differs considerably from 1995, except for our demonstrably superior music and incredible Sergio Tecchini sweat suits.
This has long been an old recipe for reality TV, which I hated with a passion since “Survivor” was launched 25 years ago. I don’t want to break anyone’s NDAs, but we all know that “reality” has been massaged on these shows in fantasy.
What is remarkable about “Beach House” is that the producers, who really need to be called the storytellers, make this interactive story in almost real -time. Every weekend you can just check in, or as it did for me, it will just pop up.
And you can penetrate any x post. Unlike me, many people have been invested in this.
This is not the first attempt to use social media in this way, but this effort has become an important angle. This is not only: “Pay attention to my live stream my life”, these producers are artists who sculpt in real -time.

They knew that Nikki smokes, smoking cigarettes, the old readers will know that I would play dig, and Annika’s love story, so they pushed it. And even if Nikki should be a little less the life of the party, and she should cool down, which is not what this column is about, it was compelling.
It is also very human, from which Barstool has been emitted in an era in which his competitors increasingly trust magical numbers or AI, or in the worst case, dei, to decide what “the people” want.
Barrestool -founder Dave Portnoy, whose questionable pizza reviews are an online sensation, is only an example of this. No AI on earth would have said that was a good idea.
And that’s the point here. It is not surprising that it is a sport -oriented care that produces this new turn on TV. Ninety -five percent of sports consumption is really a man in a van shouting: “Ready (shot) 9, Go 9, Ready 12, Go 12, now the Great, Ready 2, Go 2,”
This is how the most important Tommy and Ella moments are displayed. The rest of the house can also retreat to push them together, but I wander.
The acclaimed, and demonstrably the inventor of Mediamritic, Marshall McLuhan, argued in the 1970s that the medium is the message. He was wrong. Each medium can be manipulated to serve a message.
The human element of telling stories always comes back. That is why someone is disgusted or inspired by Katic who eats 20 sushi as if he were an arm black child in the imagination of Eddie Murphy.
That is why we love Danny, who plays the narrator as the theater manager in “Our Town” and Bri and Oona, whom I eventually realized, is not Ella.
Then there is Dante, who they call UNC. He is 41, a cookie away from Gen X, and here is leadership. But again, the point that I make about how storytellers use new technology.
In 1999 what we all stayed away about the ‘Blair Witch project’, one of the most successful indie films of all time, that suddenly, because of camcorders, this story could be filmed by the protagonist.
This is a leap forward. I can now tell a story, in a way that would not have been logical before, because who could possibly film what happens to them in real time?
It also cuts the other way. How many hilarious “Seinfeld” bits don’t feel like the age of the smartphone? You can now just find your car in the parking lot with the app.

Shakespeare taught us that we had to keep the mirror to nature, James Joyce pointed out that that mirror tends to have burst. Call me crazy, but I think “Barrstool Beach House” continues this tradition.
The Portnoy outfit is approaching NFL Films Territory in establishing his own voice, not only in sports, but also in how we tell stories.
Sunday evening will be the grand finale. I have no plans to watch. I don’t have to do. I have watched enough video and followed enough of the players on this stage that everything will be brought to me by the X -algorithm.

I don’t know exactly what I should call this thing that I have followed in recent weeks, but I like it.
And if I can finally say, Dante, you are my favorite. I grew up in the northeast of Philly with that hairstyle. It makes sense for me, but you are 41.
Which is not the point of this column.
