The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), with the support of the US and Israel, has spread around 70 million meals across Gazans since May. But the auxiliary distribution system has been under a consistent attack by Hamas and from a number of unlikely quarters – the world’s leading aid groups.
Earlier this month, the United Nations Commissioner-General General called on Philippe Lazparini for the “end of the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), because it offers nothing more than exhausting and gunfire to the people of Gaza.” He called it a ‘horror’.
His statement noted that 230 NGOs, including Amnesty International, Oxfam International, Norwegian Refugee Council and Save the Children Save have signed their names to an open letter with criticizing GHF while encouraging a return to the non-guided aid distribution model.

Critics say that UNRWA’s ties with Hamas have endangered its existence, especially in view of the success of the GHF operation.
Steinberg claimed that GHF has already shown that “that help can be offered to Gaza without trusting the old corrupt tools for billion dollars led by UN agencies such as UNRWA and the NGOs connected to Hamas.”
Steinberg said that the number of signatories of the letter has grown to more than 230, because the “powerful NGO network is fighting back and makes false allegations in a total political attempt to force Israel and other donors to end the GHF operation.”

GHF issued a statement on Friday while the words war continued.

Acree said that GHF is evolving. The organization “did not expect the despair” that it encountered.
“The Gazans have told us that this is the first time they have ever received for free help or food, and they have had to pay it so far,” he said. To prevent that despair, Acree said that GHF “is now taking measures to help with that tension and to help them understand that we are there to help and alleviate that hunger.”
He said that the group still “needs more help. We still need a lot more help”, including partnerships with the UN and NGOs.
