The official said the terrorist group attacked Israeli Army (IDF) soldiers in Rafah.
“Following the security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed the military echelon to carry out immediate and forceful attacks in the Gaza Strip,” Netanyahu’s office said on Tuesday.
Hamas responded by saying it will delay the transfer of a hostage body, according to The Associated Press.

An initial IDF investigation into that incident said a militant cell emerged from a tunnel and fired on an excavator vehicle, killing the two soldiers. There was also a reserve soldier seriously injured and evacuated to a hospital, per The times of Israel.
In response to that attack, the IDF launched air and ground strikes in southern Gaza.
“The IDF also attacked and dismantled six kilometers of underground terrorist infrastructure, using more than 120 munitions. The underground site was used by the terrorist organization to further attacks on the State of Israel,” the report said in a statement.

A US-brokered ceasefire that took effect on October 10 temporarily ended the two-year war between Israel and Hamas.

Under the deal, hostages were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and a ceasefire was declared.
