NBA -Free Agent Malik Beasley is being investigated by the office of the American public prosecutor with regard to gambling feases linked to competition matches, a person who is familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment on this.
“We work together with the research by the Federal Public Prosecutors,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass in a statement released to the AP and other stores on Sunday.
ESPN was the first to report on the investigation.
“There have been no charges against Malik,” Steve Haney, Beasley’s lawyer, told the AP. “It is just an investigation at the moment. We hope that people will reserve the judgment until he is charged – or if he is charged. It is not unusual that there is a federal investigation.”

The probe in Beasley comes 14 months after the NBA Jontay Porter forbade in Toronto, who was related to a prop bet bet and eventually argued guilty of committing wire fraud.
Last season, the Wall Street Journal was the first to report that Terry Rozier – then from the Charlotte Hornets – was investigated for activity with regard to unusual gambling patterns that surround him in a game in March 2023.
Rozier, now of the Miami Heat, is not accused of any crime and has not confronted the NBA sanction.
The ban of Porter came after a similar investigation into his performance and “prop betting” – deployment where gamblers can choose whether a player will reach a certain statistical standard or not during a game. The Porter research started as soon as the competition learned from “licensed sports bets and an organization that monitors legal gambling markets” about unusual gambling patterns around Porter’s performance in a game on March 20, 2024, against Sacramento.
The competition found that Porter gave information about his own health status before that game and said that another individual – known as an NBA -Bettor – placed a $ 80,000 bet that Porter would not touch the songs that would hit him in Parlays in Parlays via an online sports book. That bet would have won $ 1.1 million.
Beasley signed with the pistons last year and took a one -year contract for $ 6 million in the hope of cashing in this summer as a free agent. A second person, who spoke with AP on condition of anonymity because no deal was announced, said that Detroit was “very interested” to sign Beasley again for a multi -year contract this summer. Those conversations can be in danger, given the uncertainty about the federal probe.
He made a single season, franchise record 319 3-Pointers in the regular season. He helped Detroit to make the play-offs for the first time since 2019 and to end an NBA record 15-game late season in the first round against the New York Knicks.
Beasley had an average of 16.3 points last season and has an average of 11.7 points during his career at Denver, Minnesota, Utah, the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee and Detroit. He scored a career-high 19.6 points per game during the 2020-21 season with the Timberwolves.
The resident of Atlanta played in Florida State and the Nuggets set him no. 19 in 2016.
