In the middle of directing the most overwhelming deportation in modern American history, the Minister of Interior Security Kristi has now decided to play marsh games.
Literal.
Instead of investing in a sustainable, institutional enforcementback bone that is able to support the mass deportation mandate of President Donald Trump, you call Detentief Funds in a pop-up project in a swamp in Florida proud called “Alligator Alcatraz.” It’s not a joke. It is an insult.

Let’s be clear: the heart of the Trump -immigration agenda is massive deportation. This requires infrastructure such as beds, buses and planes. And when it comes to beds, we are talking about real detention facilities and real prisons, not circus tents surrounded by reptiles.
About those illegal immigrants in the United States
So why does you name a “soft -sided” facility in an ecologically fragile mosquito well, 45 miles from the center of Miami? Why does she try to set aside aside the institutional ICE institutional partners with tens of years of experience and instead reduce the shares with states that are desperately looking for political brownie points?
To be clear, this is not a criticism of the historical leadership of Florida in the field of immigration enforcement at state level. The care is what could happen.
Name has publicly said that she bypassed traditional suppliers because she thought they were “too expensive” and did not offer “fair prices”. So she turned to Republican governors to see if they could do it cheaper. In her words: “I went directly to states and asked them if they could do better to offer this service.” She now travels states and companies without ICE experience, hoping for a revolution of discount detention.
It’s a fantasy. Credits from the Ministry of Domestic Security require that a typical ice bed costs no more than $ 165/day. The “Alligator Alcatraz” of 5,000 beds, with its hurried timeline, chain-link ZIP-IT SETUP and Alligator-Adjacent location is estimated at $ 450 million for a year. Do mathematics and with a bed $ 250/day takes an expensive press hit in the Everglades.
Name, Padilla and the scary message send Democrats to supporters
This is not cost -effective. It’s Theater.
Even worse, it’s dangerous.
By spending limited detention funds on temporary, politicized state projects, wastes the best chance in decades to anchor the detention of the custody as a permanent part of our immigration system. We need the opposite of soft enforcement: specially built facilities that cannot be dismantled by the next democrat with a pen and a press conference.
If temporary staggering space is really necessary, aids are already available: state and local prisons, which had an estimated 247,000 open beds nationwide from mid-2023, can be contracted to a scale to bridge the gap-without permanent money on corrupt, short-lived camps for the newspapers.
We are with President Trump about illegal immigration
Instead, the red carpet explains for future abuse. These hastily collected facilities, manned by non-traditional suppliers and non-gaavette contractors, are ripe for failure, mismanagement and corruption. And if the White House ever folds blue again? Good luck in which it is explained why a Republican government used its deportation mandate to build shiny new processing centers tailor -made for an invasive follow -up.
Don’t believe us? See how they finance it. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Shelter and Services Program (SSP) has reserved $ 625 million to initially finance the government effort, a high officer said. This is the same program that Joe Biden used to support local governments and left -wing NGOs to accommodate, feed and transport illegal alien beings that have been released and processed by its predecessor and “only” Criminals “Compadre, Alejandro Mayorkas.
Let’s say it clearly: the obsession with “criminal optics” blinds this department. Name spectacular headlines and snake seed visuals to suggest that something is happening fat. But Bold is not tents in the Everglades.

Bold is building and activating more than 100,000 permanent detention beds. Bold regards every illegal alien as a priority. Bold is preparing for sustainability and does not pretend that mass expansion can be done in a few years.
The background for all this? Name anchoring by Central America who bragging “safe third country agreements” that, according to the countries, do not exist. In the meantime, she promises to “resolve” illegal immigration in one administration, while undermining the infrastructure that would make it possible.
If she really believes that the problem ends in four years, she has failed all her boss and the American people.

What we need is not a secretary obsessed with Optica. We need a builder. A planner. Someone who does not see detention infrastructure as a background for press trips, but as the steel spine of a long-awaited mass deportation effort.
This is not South Dakota. It is the Ministry of Interior Security. And the task is not to look hard. It is difficult – quiet, permanent and on a scale.
