Detroit (AP) – Detroit Lions Safety Morice Norris shared a social post on Saturday, and said he is in order and thanked people for their support after he was off the field In an ambulance, in a preseason match against the Atlanta Falcons.
“Amen Amen,” he posted on his Instagram story.
“I am all a good man who does not emphasize,” he said, adding that he appreciates all check-ins and support.
Norris was in a stable condition on Friday evening after he was attended by medical staff for about 20 minutes and was taken to a hospital in Atlanta.
The 24-year-old Norris was injured with 14:50 in the preseason game after he hit Falcons who walked back Nathan Carter. He hit Carter with his face mask opposite the belly of the runs and his head broke back after he helped the tackle.
When the game resumed, Atlanta Quarterback Emory Jones broke the ball while players of both teams were on the line of scrimmage while the clock continued to run.
“You usually see a few trainers there,” said Lions Quarterback Kyle Allen. “It is never good if they bring out the stretchers.”
With 6:31 about in the fourth quarter, an official announced that the match “per New York” was suspended with the Lions that led the Falcons 17-10.
Detroit -Coach Dan Campbell and Atlanta coach Raheem Morris took the decision not to finish the game.
“Raheem Morris is a class law,” said Campbell. “He is the Ultimate Class Act. We agree that it just didn’t feel good to finish that game.”
Norris, a former striking Fresno State, played last season in eight games after earning a place in the team as a unsigned Rookie.
NFL competitions for the preseason ended early in consecutive weeks two years ago.
The New England match in Green Bay in week 2 of the 2023 preseason was canceled when Patriots Cornerback Isaiah Bolden was taken away in the fourth quarter. Bolden seemed to collide with teammate Calvin Munson while trying to make a hit on a pass completion of Malik Heath from the Packers. Bolden was taken to a hospital and released the next day.
A week later, a match between Miami and Jacksonville was not completed after Dolphins receiver Daewood Davis was taken away in the fourth quarter. Davis was injured when he ran an oblique route and tried to catch a pass when he was hit by Jaguars Linebacker Dequan Jackson. Davis was released from the hospital a day later.
The two frightening injuries happened about eight months after Buffalo Accounts Safety Damar Hamlin Went in a cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field during a regular season in Cincinnati in January 2023. Hamlin enjoyed a remarkable recovery the following season and resumed football and spent last year as Bills starter.
“You sign up for football and you understand the risk, you understand the injury risk,” said Allen. “You never think such a thing will happen. At the end of the day we are all here as football players. We may be in 32 different teams, but we have all played our entire life and have our own injuries and have gone through it.”
