Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held warm meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday and sent Washington a clear message after President Donald Trump’s serious rates against India were in force last week.
XI organized Modi, Putin and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the port city of Tianjin. “Conversations with him are always insightful,” Modi wrote on X and posted a photo of himself with Putin.

Putin, in turn, called Modi his “dear friend” and expressed gratitude that India and Russia share “friendly and trusting” relationships.

“What few people understand is that we do very little business with India, but they do a huge amount of things with us,” Trump wrote, adding that the US is the “biggest customer” of India.
“They have offered to reduce their rates to nothing, but it will be too late. She should have done that years ago. Just some simple facts for people to think!” He went on.

Visiting modis with Putin and XI, however, are only the newest sign of cooling relationships between Washington and New Delhi. The Indian national security adviser traveled to Moscow last month, visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs last week and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made conversations in Delhi mid -August. Van Putin is also expected to host modes in Moscow before the end of the year.
