Speaker Mike Johnson has tried to use a wide range of excuses to justify the shutdown of Trump’s administration. Johnson has claimed that Democrats want to provide health care to illegal immigrants, which is a lie.
Johnson has claimed that it is Democrats who have really shut down the government, which is not true because Republicans control the entire federal government.
Mike Johnson has shut down the House of Representatives and refused to allow members to work until Senate Democrats vote in favor of his continued resolution, which would cause people to lose their health insurance and insurance premiums to skyrocket.
When Johnson was asked about Obamacare on Monday, he gave a more than five-minute answer in which he conceded why Republicans won’t extend subsidies and want health insurance premiums to go up.
Johnson said:
Can we completely repeal and replace Obamacare? Many of us are skeptical of that now, because the roots run so deep. It was really sinister in my opinion the way it was created. I believe that Obamacare was created to implode on itself, to collapse on itself. I think the people who drafted that, the architects of it, knew that it wouldn’t be sustainable because ultimately their goal was a single-payer system.
They wanted full government control over health care. That’s a terrifying prospect.
The plan was never a fully government-run, single-payer system. The plan Democrats have been working on for decades is designed around universal, accessible and affordable health care.
That’s the opposite of what Republicans want to do with the nation’s health care system.
Johnson then elaborated on what the Republican plan is. If the Republican Party can eradicate Obamacare from the roots, they plan to destroy the program and destroy the program:
