Speaker Mike Johnson really wants the interim elections of 2026 about crime. Johnson really wants Trump to get the honor for his photo-to-crime in blue cities.
Johnson said Wednesday:
We have to confirm for the American people that they don’t have to fear their lives when they drive to the supermarket or that they get their son or daughter from school. This is common sense and I can’t, because the life of mine understand how the Democrats think that this is a kind of winning political message.
Let the troops enter your city and show how crime can be reduced. It is a moral boost for the country and it is safe and good for everyone involved. So I, if they want to go that way, they go that way. But we keep talking about common sense and we continue to deliver.

Why is Johnson so determined to allow democratic mayors to ask Trump to invade their cities?
The answer goes back to the statement of the California Court that Donald Trump cannot use the army for civil law enforcement. Republicans are also afraid that the use of the army will be stopped by Trump by the courts if the troops are not invited to the cities.
Trump used immigration protests as a pretext to invade Los Angeles. Trump did not need justification to invade Washington, DC, but if he wants to penetrate other cities, he needs a reason or invited.
The cities have shown less than zero interest in inviting Trump and his troops in it, so Johnson tries to put them on politically under pressure.
As more cities resist, the invasion tour of Trump seems to lose steam.
Johnson has to change the subject of the economy to get a chance on the Republicans who hold the majority of the house, so he drives the crime distribution, and if this fails, his time will probably end up as a speaker.
