More than 300,000 children who crossed the border are missing
‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan joins ‘America Reports’ to discuss hundreds of thousands of children who were missing after crossing the border, the processes used to find them and the handling of the border of the Trump.
“[T]There is no other government here, “said the State Secretary of the United States,” which is just as much cooperating with us in the fight against crime as the government of Mexico. ‘A few days ago from the Palacio Nacional in Mexico city, with the top layer of the political elite of the Mexico’s political elite bundle ray approving, it was a daring explanation for Marco Rubio to make.
It is a big victory for them, in their despair to ward off what they see as a series of sausage-case results, including rates, the end of the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA), American extradition of their cartel-connected political class and American military deposits in their country. In this context, Rubio’s praise – seen as a Hawk in Latin -America in general – comes as a huge relief. They will use it as a validation the next time another American suggests that Mexico is not doing enough.
From the perspective of Mexico it is almost an out-of-jail-free card. The question is what it means.
Rubio says that Trump wants to ‘wage war’ at Venezuelan drug traders: ‘Blow them up if that is what is needed’
To borrow a sentence, the confirmation of Rubio is ‘Groot, if true’. It is so great that it raises a lot of questions – none of them answered or responsible in the public atmosphere. As old observers of Mexican Affairs know, an exemplary collaboration with the United States has not been a characteristic of Mexican administration for more than ten years.

What used to be an exceptionally close security relationship was first dented under the Mexican presidency of Enrique Peña Nieto, from 2012-2018, and then almost completely cut off among his successor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, from 2018-2024. Peña Nieto was a political structure that was shot by corruption, and Lopez Obrador, himself, has reportedly had a long relationship with the Sinaloa cartel for the past 20 years.
All this combined to produce a Mexican state that was an opponent, not a partner, for the United States-a Narco-State in everything but name, and moreover an active ally of Hemisferic dictatorship, including that in Cuba and Venezuela.
Mexico to deliver 26 top cartel leaders for us in Trump administration Deal
The current administration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, the selected successor to Lopez Obrador, has worked to present a different picture, if not necessarily another reality, for American consumption. Early threatened by the Trump government with American military action against its Allied cartels, the Regime of Sheinbaum did various things that the Mexican state had always been able to do, including the closure of the border and the delivery of Narcos with the dozen.
All these measures are needed, from the American perspective – and at best tactical. What it has never done, as far as we know, is to tackle the strategic problem that the rest of the rest are undergoing: the long -term collusion between the regime and his criminal cartels.
That collusion is neither small nor the mere background noise of Mexican citizen. It is quite fundamental for the Morena regime – the political party of both Lopez Obrador and Sheinbaum – and has been essential for the consolidation of his power. Almost unnoticed in the American policy discourse, which the regime has been busy transforming Mexican society into an autocratic left -wing populist state related to what unfolded into the disastrous effect in Venezuela.
In this context, cartel money and weapons have been essential in supplying elections, curbing independent public lifespan and enriching important power holders, making the coalition together. It is an open secret in the contemporary Mexico that although Sheinbaum itself is probably not corrupt – she is that most volatile phenomenon in Latin -America, the pure ideologist – her regime is stacked with those who are. There are recipients of cartel funds in the Senate of Mexico, the Congress, Gouverneurships and beyond.
Rubio tears the Maduro of Venezuela as a ‘narco-terrorist’ leader who threatens us a year after disputed election
These men and women are the support point, the essential link, between the state of Mexico and his cartels, and until they are treated, every scheme with Mexico – regardless of how quiet the limit is, and it doesn’t matter how much Narcos are sent to the north – is temporary. The problem is unsolved as long as the state card alliance remains in force.
This is also precisely the class of culpable figures that Sheinbaum has been left untouched and undesirable by something like justice. In the absence of that action, it is quite difficult to say that “there is no other government that works so much together [America] Against crime than the Mexican government. “Still, Secretary Rubio said that, and so we return to the original question: why?

We must be open to three important options.
One is that the United States enter the worn path of showering the Mexicans with undeserved praise, hoping to rely on their better nature. This is a bleak standard in our communication with Hen Die Never yields the hoped results-and we must be open to the possibility that more of the same is working here.

Another possibility is that the current level of cooperation, as it is, is considered sufficient by the United States, and we are satisfied with leaving the fundamental strategic problem of Mexico. This would be a huge mistake – a worse crisis is therefore an inevitability – but there is a constituency for within American bureaucracy.

The last possibility, and the one for which we hope is that the State Secretary is dead and there is much more going on behind the scenes than we know. Perhaps real action against the Narco-State device of Mexico is appearing, and both the Americans and President Sheinbaum are there.
We can hope for it, and we do that, but at some point we have to know. In the policy circles of Mexico, a conversation all-day that we will only know in 2028 is not coincidentally at the opening of Sheinbaum’s second half of her six-year-old, exactly at the point at which the responsibility of the Trump administration will be in the last few months. If this is the case, it is not enough.

What Americans need, in the validation of the rhetoric of the State Secretary, is now a visible signal. Sheinbaum, if she is a good loyalty partner, does not have to risk her regime or her life with an immediate attack on her cartel partner regime elements but she can confirm the analysis and the principles of action that result from this. She can recognize reality and say that. She loves to proclaim her dedication to the Soberania of Mexico – its sovereignty – and now she has the chance to explain that Soberania sovereignty of the cartels, his agents and his partners comprises … No matter how high they are in the government.
We on the American side need it. We want to trust – but we have to verify.
