The dominant form of media bias against Republicans is bias by committee, when reporters accuse them of committing all kinds of abuses and indignities. They are found guilty of neglecting the vulnerable in their policies and of corruption in their dealings.
Democrats benefit from the opposite: bias by omission. In 1992, CBS reporter Betsy Aaron warned, “The biggest opinion is what we leave out. I mean, it sounds simplistic, but I always say, worry about what you don’t see. What you see, you can really criticize, because you’re smart and you have an opinion. But if we don’t tell you anything and leave whole areas uncovered, that’s the danger.”
Watching the broadcaster’s ‘news’ programs this week was often an exercise in noticing what they left out. Here are just four examples.
1. The FBI reported that a 29-year-old Minnesota man, Tyler Maxon Avalos, now faces a federal charge for sending a TikTok post that read in part, “Wanted. Pam Bondi, preferably dead,” and referenced a $45,000 reward. A threat to assassinate the United States Attorney General led to a story on NBC Nightly News on Monday, but ABC, CBS and PBS couldn’t care less.

BROADCAST BIAS: ON UPDOWN TV NETWORKS, ICE AND THE NATIONAL GUARD ARE THE DANGEROUS LAWBREAKERS
This omission was especially galling for NPR, which often served as an eager publicity arm for former President Joe Biden’s attorney general, Merrick Garland. This week, Justice Department correspondent Ryan Lucas appeared across the network to warn of the dangers of President Trump labeling Antifa as a domestic terror group. NPR is far more concerned about the work of Antifa than it is about Pam Bondi’s life.
2. American Federation of Government Employees President Everett Kelley issued a statement to NBC News on Monday saying, “It’s time to pass a clean, continuing resolution and end the shutdown today, without half-measures and without playfulness.” That was aimed at Democrats, as Republicans have consistently pushed for a clean resolution. NBC reported it online, but did not make the nightly news. ABC and CBS skipped it that night. PBS gave it 18 seconds.
3. On Tuesday, October 28, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee released its report on Biden White House aides covering up Biden’s mental decline. Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. summarized: ‘The Biden Autopen presidency will go down as one of the biggest political scandals in American history. As Americans witnessed President Biden’s decline firsthand, Biden’s inner circle attempted to mislead the public, cover up his decline, and take unauthorized executive actions with the autopen that are now invalid.”

ABC, CBS and NBC broadcast nothing. PBS offered a rejection letter. NPR’s “All Things Considered” conducted an interview, but the only thing “considered” was whether Biden’s autopen pardon could be reversed. All of the committee’s findings, videos and transcripts of powerful Biden White House officials were not explained.
4. On Wednesday, October 29, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa released documents detailing “Arctic Frost,” an operation in which Biden-appointed special counsel Jack Smith went absolutely overboard in issuing subpoenas to investigate Biden’s political opponents under the guise of a January 6 investigation. Smith fired nearly 200 subpoenas against 430 Republican figures and groups. This came after Biden’s Justice Department prosecuted more than 1,000 Biden opponents held responsible for the January 6 riots.

But the broadcast networks that lovingly chronicled everything Team Biden wanted to highlight about Smith’s investigations suddenly couldn’t find anything. ABC, CBS and NBC have ignored the aerobic while obsessing over Hurricane Melissa and the government shutdown. They had time for stories about a dog falling off a cliff and a monkey running loose in a toy store, but not about Democrats behaving badly.
If Republican committees investigate, it is simply not newsworthy. When then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi assembled a totally one-sided Jan. 6 committee, every minute of every hearing was broadcast live.

Ken Starr was demonized by the media as a crazy puritan because he investigated President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. Smith was uniformly presented as a hero. CNN even documented him running to Subway for lunch because, well, he’s just like the regular guy. So it’s not surprising that when Republicans presented evidence of a different story, the liberal networks buried it like a rotting corpse.
The silliest lie circulating in politics today is that President Donald Trump has weaponized the Justice Department in an unprecedented way to go after his political opponents. Any educated American who repeats this is a liar. It’s outrageous that every elitist TV network in this country is trying to perpetuate this lie by suppressing the story about how dramatically Biden’s DOJ was weaponized.
