Hakeem Jeffries has made it official: Zohran Mamdanianti-Semitic socialist, is now the face of the Democratic Party.
The Democrats are in trouble. It’s okay to have your party hijacked by far-left fanatics in New York, and in a few other progressive hotbed states like California or Washington. But for most of the country there is the idea that a 34-year-old jihad-friendly Muslim with no work experience could become mayor of the country. New York City – the citadel of capitalism – is horrific. The fact that Jeffries, one of the Democrats’ top officials, the minority leader in the House of Representatives, supported the absurd Mamdani will haunt the party.
Here’s a reality check: Only 26% of the country describes itself as “liberal” or “very liberal.” About 32% say they are “moderate” and the rest – 33% – describe themselves as “conservative” or “very conservative.” In other words, the leftists who now lead the Democratic Party are putting all their eggs in one small basket and risk alienating nearly two-thirds of Americans. That really is a terrible marketing plan. Just ask the makers of Bud Light.

Democratic leaders are not leading, they are pandering. For weeks, Jeffries pretended to be seriously considering the matter. His Hamletian hesitation kept political junkies entertained, but there was never any doubt that Jeffries would fall in line with his fellow New York cops, almost all of whom have lent his support. State Councilor Mamdani and all of whom are terrified of the progressive wing of their party.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumerone of the few remaining holdouts, will almost certainly be the next to bend the knee. Schumer has also been non-committal, even as his political future clearly hangs in the balance.
The New York senator has long been one of Israel’s staunchest supporters. More than 1 million Jews live in New York; Schumer, who is Jewish, is deeply involved in that community and is one of the largest recipients of campaign donations from pro-Israel groups, bringing in nearly $2 million between 1990 and 2024.
CUOMO CLOSES GAP ON MAMDANI NOW NYC MAYOR’S RACE DRAMATICALLY GAINED IN NEW POLL
Although Mamdani has walked back some of his more outrageous anti-Israel or anti-Semitic comments, he has yet to condemn the phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” which is essentially a call to exterminate the Jews. He is also steadfast in his incendiary threat to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was allowed to set foot in New York.
Schumer infuriated the left earlier this year when he helped Republicans pass a spending bill; Progressives want their elected representatives to oppose the Trump administration on all issues, even if it hurts the country. Schumer did the right thing, but got hammered for it.
He’s now paying a high price, and it could cost him his job. Consider Schumer’s fundraising. The New York Post reports that “the Brooklyn Democrat raised just $133,000 during the three months ending September 30” and compares that paltry sum to the $4.5 million raised in the same period by flashy “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. AOC could challenge Schumer in the Democratic primary if his Senate seat comes up in 2029. AOC is cagey about her intentions, but her left-wing fans are encouraging her to run for office. mutual competition showed AOC crushing Schumer by 21 percentage points.

Now, Senator Schumer There is a risk that the left will alienate itself even further from him if he does not support Mamdani. The last time he faced such a dilemma was four years ago, when he insisted on voicing his support for India Walton, the Democratic Socialist running for mayor of Buffalo. In that contest, he ultimately conceded just days before the vote, which Walton lost to a write-in candidate, meowing that she won the Democratic primary “fairly” and that she “always believed that the Democratic Party is a big tent.”
DAVID MARCUS: UNTIL 2025 DEMOCRATS THE EXTREMIST IS FETTERMAN, NOT MAMDANI
Meanwhile, outside the festering progressive turf of New York City, the rest of the country must be dismayed by a Democratic tent that now harbors anti-Semites, homophobes, racists, would-be murderers, Nazis and socialists.

There is a candidate, Graham Platner, who is running in the Democratic primary for a chance to challenge Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine. He agrees wore a Nazi tattoo on his chest (which he has since covered) and has a history of making anti-gay slurs. Amazingly, he appears to have an edge over rival Governor Janet Mills.
CLINTON CAMPAIGN ALUM URNS JEFFRIES AND SCHUMER TO ‘NOT TAKE’ AND BE ‘BULYED’ FOR MAMDANI APPROVAL
Jay Jones, the Democrat running for attorney general in Virginia, sent text messages three years ago in which he fantasized about a Republican opponent getting “two bullets in the head” and hoping the Republican lawmaker’s children would “die in their mother’s arms.” That doesn’t look good for someone who wants to become the top law enforcement officer in his state.
And what about Massachusetts Representative Ayanna Presley saying, “There’s nothing more terrifying than a white man with a gun,” or Representative Jasmine Chrockett of Texas dismissing some of her fellow Democrats as “white boys.” Are such comments acceptable? Could a Republican get away with denigrating colleagues as “black boys”?
Of course not, but Democrats look the other way at all these outrages, terrified of engaging their own radicals.

But for today’s Democrats, socialism is not radical. Gallup reports that while most Americans still support capitalism, two-thirds of Democrats now do embrace socialisma system that has literally failed every time it has been introduced, resulting in poverty and corruption. Unfortunately, that is not what AOC, Mamdani or others have been taught in our schools.

Yes, the far left will succeed in New York or California, where Democrats far outnumber Republicans. But of the eight House seats currently held by Republicans that the Cook Political Report considers a toss-up and that Democrats are targeting, none are in New York or the Golden State.

They’re in states like IowaMichigan, Pennsylvania and Arizona, where voters are unlikely to be keen on socialism or anti-Semitism.
That’s why election experts say the midterm elections, which typically favor the party out of power, appear to be evenly matched and control of the House of Representatives is a toss-up affair.
