The liberal media includes a group of media reporters who view their work as waging war against any media owner or manager who might even remotely shift his outlet to the center. They are very happy to find their allies in the newsrooms and grant them the anonymity to destroy anyone who does not see their job as impeaching and jailing President Donald Trump and describing everyone who works for him as Gestapo equivalents.
CBS News under new owner David Ellison and its hand-picked editor-in-chief Bari Weiss became a hot topic again this week when Weiss held an all-staff meeting to clear the air with all the anonymous sources trashing her behind her back. The Daily Beast headline summed it up: “MAGA-curious CBS Boss Dares to Give Up Defiant Staffers in Stretched Hands.” Their headlines on new evening news anchor Tony Dokoupil label him “MAGA coded.”
Critics of this new regime like to predict that disaster is lurking. The Ringer literally depicted Weiss’ CBS as “pancaked, Wile E. Coyote style, against the side of the mountain.” According to Variety’s CBS sources, the network is on the brink of a “death spiral” that will be “difficult to reverse.” CBS News has been in third place for decades and its viewership continues to decline, but merely adding diversity of viewpoints is “death spiral” material.
Weiss was blunt about the declining appeal of traditional media. “We’re not producing a product that enough people want,” she said. She is much like other network executives in recognizing that most younger Americans don’t watch TV news or listen to traditional radio. They will have to pack them in a different format. The ‘aging’ of the public is a hard fact.

But the liberal hardliners can’t bear to find a new audience by including dissenting opinions, or a “news opinion” that isn’t fervently anti-Trump. NPR media reporter David Folkenflik relied on eight anonymous CBS complainants. Some were outraged that the “CBS Evening News” overshadowed the fifth anniversary of Jan. 6 in less than a minute, but ended the program with a light-hearted, funny segment about Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s memes. Dokoupil insulted the insiders by concluding: “Marco Rubio, we salute you.”
The traditional CBS approach can be seen a year ago on their “Sunday Morning” program, on January 12, 2025, when CBS reporter Martha Teichner celebrated President Joe Biden’s then Secretary of State Antony Blinken under the headline “Man of the World.” Teichner, a classmate of Hillary Clinton at Wellesley, had Blinken photobomb a photo of female foreign ministers at a NATO meeting and celebrated Blinken as a square. He “promoted music diplomacy – performing the Muddy Waters blues standard ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ in a suit and tie.” Greeting the Democrats is the norm.
The biased media reporters are also angry at Washington Post CEO Will Lewis, who is expected to announce massive layoffs any day, with expected cuts to sports and foreign coverage, which are unprofitable. Making a newspaper less broadly oriented can be the wrong strategy, but it is fascinating to see how journalists blame the owners and the ‘business side’.
BARI WEISS TELLS STAFF ’60 MINUTES’ CECOT STORY WAS NOT READY, SAYS DISRESPECT AMONG COLLEAGUES UNACCEPTABLE
Former Post reporter Ashley Parker tweeted: “I don’t understand how firing a bunch of talented and hard-working journalists solves a fundamental problem facing publishers and corporations. The Post deserves better.” An anonymous Postie claimed: “The newsroom is being punished for absolute incompetence of the owner and publisher.”
It is better for journalists to remain anonymous when accusing a self-made billionaire of incompetence. All of this makes journalists look like an entitled class of brats. If people stop buying newspapers and lose $100 million a year, don’t blame “talented journalists,” that’s a “business problem.”

The same internal panic is happening at the “public broadcasters” in the wake of Trump and the Republicans cutting off taxpayer funding. PBS just canceled its “PBS News Weekend” show and instead created two weekend programs that don’t require weekend staff.

But the liberal hardliners can’t bear to find a new audience by including dissenting opinions, or a “news opinion” that isn’t fervently anti-Trump.
NPR ran a long, screeching article from 19 correspondents about how Trump is engaging in “a sweeping expansion of executive power while eroding democratic norms.” Under a propaganda image of Trump pulling a plug on the wall, NPR charged: “Trump has attacked free speech, in an effort to control and change information,” including defunding public media.
These media activists equate their own attack journalism with “democratic norms,” as if “democracy” is defined as destroying Republicans and helping Democrats win as many elections as possible. No one should question their ideological ‘control’ over information, otherwise they are a pack of tyrants.
