This is the story of two federal judges – one Trump appointee and one Biden appointee – who separately convicted two men for their attempted assassination of a former (and future) President of the United States and a current Supreme Court justice. Trump’s judge correctly followed the facts and the law and sentenced President Trump’s would-be assassin to life in prison; the Biden judge dangerously followed her political and ideological agenda and sentenced would-be murderer Kavanaugh – because he is now pretending to be a woman – to less than a third of the recommended sentence.
On September 15, 2024, Ryan Wesley Routh took up his position in a sniper’s nest at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. He put a bullet in his SKS rifle, which he had no legal right to do as a convicted felon. He then focused on President Trump and his entourage. By the grace of God, a Secret Service agent spotted the gun barrel poking through the bushes and saved Trump’s life from his second assassination attempt in just two months. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon of South Florida sent Routh away in a cage to spend the rest of his miserable life. Cannon understood the gravity of the moment and passed the test.

A few months ago, radical left Biden-appointed Judge Deborah Boardman, who was in Maryland, flunked a similar test — and failed miserably. Nicholas Roske, a pet store employee, was very angry after the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Roske discovered that the Court was about to return abortion to its proper place for debate: the United States. So Roske decided that he wanted to kill three judges to change the outcome of the Court. Roske posted about his barbaric desires on social media, but Biden’s Justice Department failed to pursue him.
Shortly after the draft leak, Roske flew across the country from his home in California to Maryland, where Judge Kavanaugh, his wife Ashley and their two young daughters lived. Roske had obtained Kavanaugh’s address and planned to carry out his morbid goal of changing American legal history. He brought two unloaded guns with him so he could carry them on the plane. He also brought zip ties, a knife, lock picking tools and boots with specially modified soles so he could move stealthily around the Kavanaugh residence. He took a taxi to his target’s house and got out, with a murder kit in tow. Then his plan ran into a problem. Due to the threats resulting from the embarrassing Dobbs leak, an increased number of law enforcement officers protected Judge Kavanaugh’s home. Roske couldn’t complete his evil mission, so he quickly devised a strategy.

Roske called his sister and then 911. He told the dispatcher about his plan and claimed he was suicidal. The police quickly arrived on the scene and arrested him. The case was a slam dunk in light of Roske’s confession, murder kit and gruesome series of social media posts. Trump’s Justice Department has recommended a 30-year prison sentence. Judge Boardman, however, had a different plan. She focused on Roske’s claim that he identified as a woman named Sophie. Boardman whined during the sentencing that Roske’s time would be harder because he would have to serve it in a men’s prison. Incredibly, even by democratic legal standards, Boardman imposed a sentence of only eight years on someone who had tried to assassinate a Supreme Court justice. Several defendants received much harsher sentences for their conduct during the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters shockingly received nine years in prison for a non-violent election violation that did not involve a vote change; no attempt had even been made to change the votes. Even Trump’s lawyer, the would-be assassin, Routh, demanded that Cannon give a 27-year prison sentence for his monstrous client in Florida. It’s despicable that Boardman’s deranged transgender fanaticism allowed Roske to skate with only eight years in prison.

Imagine if Roske had succeeded. No Supreme Court justice has ever been assassinated; the only previous attempt took place in the nineteenth century. President Joe Biden is said to have taken full advantage of Roske’s act of domestic terrorism by appointing a hardcore leftist to replace Kavanaugh, with the eager help of the Democratic-controlled Senate. Roe would have survived and Roske would have gotten his wish. Boardman’s sickening sentence sends a crystal-clear message that terrorism will not be dealt with harshly if the terrorist has a story that touches the heart of a left-wing judge – or worse.

Those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome probably don’t care because their hatred is all-consuming, but any rational American should understand the gravity of Routh’s act. Cannon clearly did that when she left Routh to rot in a cage for the rest of his pathetic life. Boardman just as clearly didn’t understand the gravity of the moment. She allowed her radical ideology to contaminate her judgment. She had the opportunity to send a message to the country that attempts to assassinate Supreme Court justices will not be tolerated. Instead, she did the opposite. Boardman is a disgrace who should be impeached. Cannon deserves a lot of attention for elevation to an appellate court and perhaps one day becoming Justice Cannon.
